Default Oil Consumption

Dealer tells me that that my 07 GT3 RS can use up to 1 quart per 650 miles and still be within spec. I am at around 1 quart per 1000 miles with about 5000 miles on the car, about 50% on track. What has been everyone else's experience. Some folks tell me that after 5000 miles when the piston rings are properly seated, the oil consumption will decrease. I guess I've been spoiled by my 993 where I almost never have to add oil in between oil changes.

My RMS still looks dry btw. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Default Me Too!

Our 997 GT3 has c. 3700 miles, and is using oil at about the level you posted. My impression is that oil consumption is MUCH higher on track - like nil on the street, and 1 pint/500 track miles.

I have to qualify this by stating that the repeatability of the oil level measurement is much less than confidence-inspiring: This weekend at VIR, it appeared that the car gained 1 increment of oil level on the computer sensor!

A friend has an '04 996 GT3 which has a dipstick. I've been interested in determining whether or not that dipstick will work in the 997 "tube".

Hey Karl

We had this discussion at the track. I cannot figure that stupid computer oil level thing out. It changes everytime I use it. If you can find a way to put a dipstick in, let me know.

I've got 5,000km on mine with two track days making up about 500km of it and there has been no oil usage. The electronic dipstick shows the same ranges it did when new. The car's fuel appetite however has been in another league, I consume 15-17L/100km! I feel like I need to stop for gas more often than I go to the washroom.

I have 7500 km (GT3) and the oil gauge still shows full charge.

I have had a very careful brake-in and first redlined it at 2700 km. The engine does wonders now.

I have 5400mi and have added 200cc of oil. The car gets regular use and each time it is for at least 60 mi of spirited driving on mountain roads with regular excursions to the redline. I have had very few ocassions when there is a little smoke during startup. Breakin was progressively aggresive and spirited driving only occured after the oil temp reached 200.

Drqiman, I have to say that we use the car almost identically, except that I spend half of the time on freeways to get to the mountains. Smoke on start-up is a on-off affair, but it is dropping off in the last few weeks.

997 GT3 i have two track weekends on it and 2600 miles. my oil gage reads full most of the time, i do get a few inconstant readings range from full to 1/2 quart low. Do you take allot of short trips with it?

I was told these cars use some oil until the rings are seated. During my first 1000 miles, I added about 1 quart. Then, I changed the oil at 1300 miles. I now have 2600 miles of street driving. I have not added oil since I changed it at 1300 miles. This could mean the rings are seated. I was very careful during the break-in period. I never run the car hard unless the oil temperature has reached 205 or so. I get occasional smoke on start up. I try to only drive far enough to get the oil temperature up to at least 200. I have also progressively approached redline. I can't wait to take the car to the track.

So the fancy automated system isn't good enough for the Cup car, eh? Imagine that.

Thanks for the info Chris. Can you take a pic of the cup car's oil fill area so I can see how it compares to the stock?

Thanks.
