I may be greatly misinformed, but I heard that part of the reasoning is that Porsche AG is losing their shirt due to the ever-weakening Dollar in relation to the Euro.

What about the rest of the world?

If Porsche is losing money on US sales, then the solution is that US prices must rise. Doesn't seem to be a problem as people are already paying 25% premiums (for the RS anyway).

I heard that the majority of the allocations left for MY'08 (late '07 builds) would be sent to other more profitable markets in Asia and the ME. I would bet my shirt that the successor to the current car will arrive in the US with a significant price increase, because like you said, it appears the market is willing to pay it. It might be easier though to phase in the price increase with the advent of a new model or at least a significant facelift. Of course, I dont have any facts to back my theory up, so please take it with a grain of salt.

If you plan to use proper harneses & a Cage, why not get the fixed buckets? If you have a back seat and wont be using harnesses why get the new ones, as the sport seats fold nicely?

Am I missing something here? (harnesses with no cage?, cool CF? Racy "look"?)
Check out Point #8 Oprional Equipment in post #5. At the very end of the Sports bucket seat description it states (not available for 911 GT3/GT3 RS)

although a guess, i think a good one.
look at current price gap b/n GT3 and 2.
also look at delta b/n 997S and 997GT3, 10-15k only.
so why not boost GT3 price another 20-30k to base of 130
so loaded 997S = 100
striped GT3 = 130
RS 150
GT3 = 190

of course, i am conjecturing as well.

Probably due to timing. The seats are available "from 11/2007 at the earliest". And GT3 production ends 12/2007.

My dealer told me he got allocation on a 01/08 build. But I'm a bit unsure if this is exact information, or if it could be a late 12/07.

Most ME (read: Gulf countries) dealers pay Porsche in US $$$ I believe since their currencies are tied to the US$. However Kuwait recently swapped to the Euro and I think it's a matter of time before we see that happening with several Gulf countries.
Very few cars arrive here; only 2 RS's in UAE (Dubai) and certainly 2 here in Oman.

I'm in Holland and the story is the same. I can't get in a new order anymore beacuse the production will end at the end of the year. The word from the dealer is the '07 GT3 does not meet the new EU emission regulations that will go in effect in '08 onwards. Not sure whether that is the only reason.

There is only one new GT3 (white, CS with PCCB) at a dealer in the entire country. I'm trying to decide between that or a low mileage 996 GT2 CS (at less than half of its original sticker price). Have to decide by next week.

That may explain why there are only about 20% of the expected allocation here now? I would imagine though all dealers had commitments form PCNA by July.

Ha, I knew it! Just as I tought.

If all of this is true, then those of us lucky enough to get a GT3 in the US should be in pretty good shape for a while.

I heard the same from the sales manager at my local dealer. It makes sense for porsche to shift available product to emerging markets. Porsche is increasing their presence in those markets (good for the long term) especially since the lower dollar means lower profits on sales in the US.

What were you concerned about that you now consider yourself to be in "pretty good shape for a while"?

The new one with upgraded engine will come out a few months after the mk1 production ends.

That's simply not true. Well into 2009, may be.

Andreas Preuninger is said to be working on GT3 developments, but the timescale is likely to be similar to 996GT3 Mk1>Mk2

Porsche have a lot of new products and 987/997 facelifts to launch beforehand.
