I am curious to hear your comparison of 981 vs 718 spyder. I haven’t owned a 718 but owned the gt4 and spyder in 981. 981 spyder is one of my fav cars all time. I’m out of the business of getting in/our of cars but the ones that tempt me are 718 bs or 718 b gts 4.0.
JR,
718 GT Spyder, hands down the better car. GT suspension, perfect chassis and handling, best electric steering I have experienced. Much quicker than 981. 981 chassis and suspension softer than 718. I love the look of the 718 and the driving position is more like my 7.2 RS. The gearing does not feel as tall because third pulls very hard letting me shift to third at 4500 RPM. Very little fatigue due to super responsive steering if you are like me leaving one hand on the shifter all the time. 981 was a little louder before break-in. After break-in, the 718 somehow got louder. I have no explanation for this but I have not felt the need to switch exhausts. Oh, also the visibility on the 718 is phenomenal. The ability to weave through traffic, almost zero blind spots and looking at the traffic before you is like playing a video game. I can read the traffic better than any other car I have ever owned including the 981 Spyder and switching in and out of third and fourth will get you just the right feathering needed to switch lanes and zip through. It is a blast to drive the 718 GT Spyder, period! Never felt this level of nimbleness in the 981 Spyder.
I have no experience with the base or gts 718. I imagine if you enjoyed the 981 GT4/Spyder, you want the 718 GT Spyder. It is the perfect convertible GT4 experience.
If you have the itch for the 718, I would highly recommend the GT Spyder.
