RS rollbar/seat travel opinions
Have an RS on order and was going to pre order the factory euro RS rollbar. But was wondering if it would restrict seat travel and or the reclining of the seat.
I know in some smaller cars like the boxter recently drove in a Chevy SSR the seats are right against the back panel of the interior and wont recline as much as the forward position.
I am 6'1" with most of my height from the waste up so headroom is always an issue and was wondering if the bar would limit the seat travel.
Thanks

- take a look at the Safety Designs cage that I have in my car (you will find it in many P cars at trackdays)
- it requires that 2plates be welded into the car but then the whole thing bolts in
- the half cage weights approx 50#s and can later be made into a full cage that is race approved if desired
- the reason that I am posting this reply is that the additional benefit of this 1/2 cage / harness bar is that both the harness bar and diagonal easily unbolt and allows access to the rear seat space that the factory bar will not for a set of golf clubs / luggage / etc
-and, the seats can be put all the way back on the track without hitting the bar in any way

Yes, I had the factory bar installed in my RS and two things happen:
1) The silver tabs that you use to lean the seat-back forward strike the rollbar and could be easily broken if you or a passenger(the ladder probobly being the case) slide the seat back without looking to see if there is enough room.
2)The head rest can hit the top of the cross bar if your not careful. The seat-back also "gives" just a bit, so it may not be hitting the bar but if a larger person sits in it, their weight could press the seat-back far enough that would allow it to rub.
Get the factory seats of good pair of race shells. That's the only way to go.

The only bar that I know of that allows a lot of drivers seat room is the one from GMG Racing. http://www.gmgracing.com/porsche_interior.shtml

Also have the GMG cage and like it, but was disappointed in lack of install instructions, hardware not neing sent with the cage, etc. Not as easy to install as they claim, you will have to trim some of the plastic under carpet by each side in order to get front section to fit. They should warn you of this.
