Default Tire pressure monitoring accuracy

I'm curious about the accuracy of the sensors and in-car Tire Pressure Information. My pressures read 4 pounds higher at each wheel when measured with either the gauge Porsche supplied with the car or my trusted gauge. Is the in-car TPI faulty? Any experience with this?

FWIW, my TPI indicated pressure is 2 lbs less than actual based upon a very accurate gauge.

Most people report (me included) a 4psi variance - TPMS reads lower than manual gauges...so the TPMS is good for letting you know if a tire is losing pressure or flat.

my TPMS reads 3psi HIGHER than manual gauge (confirmed consistently by two high end long acre gauge).

My TPMS reads 3lbs. less than my trusted gauge. It drives me nuts. If anyone knows of a way to calibrate it, I'd sure appreciate it.

Exactly, now how do you do that?

pls share when you figure it out.

i hated the tpms so much on my first cayman and was unable to disable it, i bought another one without tpms to replace it. that is how much the little light and warning text troubled me. but after 2007, all p cars got them ;-(

Depends on the gauge for me. Pencil gauge and I'm 3 pounds low in front and 4 pounds low in rear. (That is, my gauge says 37 and the TPS says 33) However, with my digi gauge, spot on.

And by the way, I learned firsthand what Nordscheife was referring to regarding being on the interstate and having a flat. The TPS notification saved my car. It could have been bad. But good luck trying to get a jack under one of these puppies with a flat tire! Not going to happen.

And for those wondering, I had a HOLE in my tire center tread and the sealant was not going to plug it. Good thing I was 2 mins from home. Grabbed a 20" champion wheel that I had for my 7.C2S and was able to drive it home. Whew!

I'm on the case - let's see what Porsche and Beru have to say...

Whether they are spot on or not, I like the system for road driving. Mine gave me a heads up of
-10# at one corner and I had a nail in that one. Is not this system required on ALL 08's?

I've been having a long and detailed discussion with somebody from Beru. I'm afarid that the bottom line is that you can't turn the system off and you can't adjust the displayed values or (re-)calibrate the thing. So basically, you get what you're given and accept it.

I speculated that Beru's Quality Control tolerance level for the sensors was +/- 2psi, which wasn't denied.
