Some truth in here... Right on about the "new guy" that shows up in a bone stock street car and drives the wheels of it using a great line and technique.
Also, everything is relative. If you have the funds to have a 996 Cup car and trailer rig, and get a RS for your street car along with the power seats, navigation, disc changer, etc. - more power to you.

The GT3RS is advertised as a race car you can legally drive to the track. Not as a street car that can be driven on the track. At least this is my understanding of their market positioning.
In reality Porsche made the compromise more in the direction of streetability. So the snickering is justified because a car that claims to be a street legal race car has all the trappings of a luxury car. That seems silly.
Nobody is laughing at a Turbo with navigation. It was meant to be a kick-*** street car and the bull**** meter stays down. A GT3 RS with Navigation triggers the bull**** meter, that's all.

The only good thing it had was the alcantara steering wheel. I put one on mine and kept all the cruise control and radio buttons which you lose for the useless "track" DSC mode in the competition package.
I don't see much of a problem with a "street legal race car" concept.
Give it the legislation required safety systems and it's done.
Club racing series like BMWCCA envisioned that by having stock and prepared classes. In the beginning many racers in stock class drove their race cars to the track. There is much less of that now and I think it's a shame.
I like the convenience of being allowed to drive my "track" car on the street.
If I need to take it to the mechanic I just go. I don't need to drive 20 minutes to my trailer, come back, load the car, bring to the mechanic, take the trailer to storage again.
No, I don't want my "track" car to be as spartan as a Cup car but I don't want it to be a luxury boat either. The minimum of conveniences that are light is good enough. I will not need that car to go to work with. I may go for a drive in it sometimes and maybe even do some posing downtown with it but I don't need it to be pleasant. Like old fashioned exotic cars but without bad reliability.

I've got my flame suit on in advance before I put in my 2 cents on this fine discussion: while we're all maniacally debating weights of things like nav and sunroof, aren't we forgetting that some of the same folks that spend a bunch of money and time to get 5 pounds off the car are the same people who could use dropping 20-30 pounds off their bodies (excluding all of you, of course)? That and the resultant increased focus on fitness and hydrating makes a driver at any level stronger, sharper, and less fatigued, particularly for those late afternoon sessions. Instead of chowing down at lunch during track days, I grab a light bite and go for a 45 minute run...

they are options...get 'em if you want 'em on YOUR car. In the US you will see them loaded thanks to dealers wanting to make more $$$ on cars they spec'd themselves - not necessarily because the owner wanted it that way.

In Fatherland most cars of that caliber are expected to be ordered to customer spec. The practice of dealers stuffing the cars with useless options is not as prevalent. From my limited knowledge Germany is a capitalist economy but they do have some socialist features. Too socialist for you?
And dealers overstuffing cars is not really a feature of capitalism. It is a feature of allowing people to break their word (backed by a deposit). People can back out out of custom ordered cars leaving the dealer with a car that has difficult to sell options. Breaking one's word does not seem very capitalist to me.
