I have been looking at the cage of the 997rs and the cage of the 996rs and it appears that the mounting points for the harness are different. On the 996 they mount right behind the seats, on the 997 they mount further back.

Anyone know why?

evan, your observation is correct.

i dont konw why.

but my not so scientific analysis feels 996 design is better. the harness bar is too far back on 997 for hans application, and you will need a seat back brace (perhaps). with the 996 bar (like the one you had) the harness bar also acts as a seat back brace.

so when are you going to attach your GT3 to the bar :-)

^+1 We have an RS cage in the GT3, and we are finding that mounting points for the belts are too far back as well. Maybe the solution is longer belts...

I am curious why Porsche changed the design of the cage? This makes very little sense to me as the int dimensions of the cars are very similar.

Better seat back clearance would be my guess. BTW, I have the 997 tequipment bar and have no problems setting up my HANS to work properly.
