Default GT3 order process, how does it work?

I'm trying to figure out how the ordering process works for this car.

From what I understand, you need to find a dealership that has allocations, then you go on a waiting list and they move down the list as Porsche gives them the go-ahead to use one of their allocations.

Is that correct? Do the dealerships know how many allocations they have and when the cars will be built? Are there any dealerships in North America where I could order a car to my specs and have it by summer?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

In Toronto, contact Pfaff or DFC to see whether they have any 07 cars coming that are not spoken for. I think they know ahead of time how many cars they will be getting for a year. They do maintain a waiting list, but people drop out so you can get one sooner than expected.

All US dealers should know their '07 allocations so there are no waiting lists. I am not aware whether they know their '08 allocations yet. Best to go through the Porsche website and call all the dealers to see whether they have any open allocations. My guess is that there are some, however for a June/July build its getting a little late to develop your own spec.

Thanks guys. Do you know if there is any easier method of checking inventory than to go to each website? Is there a master database someone has access to in the Porsche dealership world? There is only one GT3 in Canada for sale. It's a sweet car, but it has a few options I don't want (main one is the wart on the dash).

Thanks again. I never realized how difficult it is to order a p-car new!!! The options maze is quite something.

The GT3 is a car which appeals to a narrow audience. Therefore, they've been produced in exceedingly small numbers. Virtually all '07 MY GT3s have now been spoken for, and it's highly unlikely you'll find any new GT3s in dealers' inventories. Whether or not Porsche will build more cars than they already have built/allocated remains a topic of intense discussion and wild speculation.

The regular 997s are a different matter altogether, so shouldn't be as difficult to obtain/order.

FWIW, I initially put a deposit on a GT3 in April '06, and the car finally arrived 1/13/07. They are worth waiting for.

About 9 months ago I called each of the 200+ North American dealers about an RS allocation. Took me about a day.
