Default 997 GT3 - Check engine light

Guys,

997 GT3 1300 miles, got the yellow light "check engine, visit workshop", called the dealer and scheduled a service appointment, service dept. said it might be because of the low emissions?, next day the light went away, called the dealer and said not to worry about it and called them if it happened again.

Has this happened to any of you?
Should I take the car to the dealer anyways?
BTW, with 1300 miles should I change the oil now?
Thanks.

Are you screwing down the gas cap well? I had it but went to dealer and they reset and never got it again.

if you have some time go to the dealer and let them read if there are any faults logged. it will give you a paece of mind and have a record of the problem if it ever happens again.

I agree...have it logged.
I just changed the oil at 1015...cheap insurance....not many metal particles...some white flakey ones though.

Be thankful you don't have a 360 Modena , I can tell you some CEL stories.

Have it logged. May be nothing, or may be serious. I've had both. Different times; same light. You will rarely get hurt if you treat it as serious and are pleasantly surprised by the data logger. Now, the spoiler malfunction light on my turbo... That I ignore.

Def get it on record, probably just the gas cap. CEL's are almost always simple emission system problems on 996/997's, unlike the 993 cars.

No kidding. The early cars had CEL issues from hell.

Mine was caused by the "Hood Closed" computer under the front bonnett. Porsche has had a big problem with these little buggers going bad.

Yessiree. I've had two one car had 2 new ECUs in the end after counteless resets, the other had to have the ECUs sent to FNA in NJ to be "reflashed".

I'm not sure I believe they did anything in the second case other than just give me new ECUs again, it was probably just too embarrasing to admin the problem.

Mind you I think the ECUs are made in Germany... I've always pictured a german dude on a Friday afternoon after a Becks saying "zis one we send to italy"
