Slow driver? Tires? Conditions? 1 sec on a 7 - 8 min course is statistically, and realistically, insignificant.

Perhaps, but still slower than the 996GT3RS.

Dude,

this has been talked about AD NAUSEUM on here....
your infor may be correct for that day/time...but it's not the best time a 997GT3RS tracked the Ring. The best is 7:42.
It's not slower than the old GT3.
Take your soapbox somehwere else dude.

FYI Sport Auto's Supertest is THE reference for Ring times. There are faster drivers, but HVS is consistent.

Apperently it's slower, with the same driver. Interesting that it's slower in a straight line as well.

996GT3RS 997GT3RS
0-100 km/h 4,2 4,3
0-120 km/h 5,4 5,6
0-140 km/h 7,1 7,5
0-160 km/h 8,8 9,2
0-180 km/h 10,8 11,1
0-200 km/h 13,5 14

The top speed @ Döttinger Höhe
997GT3RS 271 km/h 168,4 mph
997GT3 272 km/h 169,0 mph
996GT3RS 280 km/h 174,0 mph
996GT3 Mk2 272 km/h 169,0 mph
996GT2 Mk1 284 km/h 176,5 mph

There was also an article on rennteam a few days ago about Sport Auto being suspect about Ring times...

http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php...&page=0#320344

check it out.

Also from wikipedia, interesting note:

During the industry testing sessions in which de:Sport auto records its "Supertest", the track can not be travelled at full speed past "Tribüne 13" (T13, grandstand 13) in order to allow safe access from the old exit/entrance there.

Orabidoo's posts don't to me seem inflammatory.

Anyway, the data are weird. Not sure how to reconcile them against what's been written about the new cars so far (from Porsche, the mags, and new owners), but there must be some reason.

Why would Sport Auto want to cook the books?

Doesn't matter, it the consistency of Sport Autos test. I assume that you've never read mag.

Have you ever been to Nurburgring???

Still these discussions are ridiculous. Were all those cars tested on the same day? Same setup? Same drivers? Same trim levels? Same fuel load? One second is not much of a difference on a long track, even the weather and wind conditions could cause a one second deviation.

996 tested in 2004, 997 in 2006. Same driver HvS, factory set up.

I was thinking that ignoring the 996/997 comparo and focusing on the the 997 performance, it seems that the performance delta b/t the the GT3 and the RS is small, within testing error, and any differences b/t the two cars is insignificant for all but the best drivers. If that's the case, it doesn't make such a compelling case for the RS.

I still want one though.
