you can also check for over-revving. it's only $247. it would be great for turining off airbag light from fiting racing seats among many other things.
thought some would be interested.

Does it work for the 997 GT-3?

While it might turn off the air bag warning light, would it stay off or would you have to reset it every time you started the car?

Not sure if it works for the 997. you will have to check their website as they list everything it works for. This Durametric tool has been around for awhile and the guys on the 996 board love it. Also, Loren over at Renntech.org spent a considerable amount of time testing the product for them. For the money it is proabably the best "scan tool" there is as it does WAY MORE than the basic OBD2 readers. The only downside is that it is PC laptop (or CPU) based.....no handheld functionality yet.

the durametric software can turn off a fault (like the airbag), but it can not turn off the root of the cause. i.e. if you install 997 GT3 seats, you will get an airbag light every time unless you use a PIWIS to go in and turn off the system looking for the thorax (sp?) airbag.

soory forgot to put the link. thanks carrera gt that's the one. you turn it off once and that is it. all 997 use the same dme so it should work for the gt3. they advertise a 30 day money back and its cheap enough to be worth a try. i'll wait until my gt3 comes in and then order one.

Bob, I knew the answer to the airbag light before I asked it. You must use the PIWIS just as you say. I may still buy one just to keep track of certain parameters though.

Yes it is a nice tool. I have one with all the connectors for all the cars (shop version). It works pretty well. For my business though, I still need a PIWIS for things like turning of the PASM when installing Motons, enabling the RS program in the standard GT3 when you upgrade with a LWF, etc.

Hold on, stop the presses. Wasn't there just a discussion recently about this? Maybe you didn't chime in there but the discussion basically talked about the RS LWFW/Clutch mod but yet not being able to reap the full benefit since the car would not have the RS program loaded. So, then you are saying, if you do this upgrade the dealer, indy, etc., SHOULD be enabling the RS program to allow the RS kit to work at the full potential?

No I am not saying they should enable the programming. Only that they can enable it. Now with the dealers it may be a little touchy. An AFAIK there are only 1 or 2 indys that have the tool. I am trying to buy one (think stupid expensive and then multiply by 5) at the moment. Just sifting through the 35 page agreement that tells me I can spend a lot of money, I have no rights to anything, and they can blow me off whenever they want to. Standard PCNA agreement.

VB,
Have you heard of anyone having any luck with this? My understanding was that Porsche won't give out (through IPAS) the DME programming code for the "GT3 RS EU4" data record without an RS VIN?

I have seen the code, the way to enter it, etc. Have not done one personally yet. Will have to wait a few more weeks...
