These people must assume they are bidding on the CAR and not a premium ABOVE the sticker MSRP.

I wonder if there is any recourse if that is the case? What could you do?

I wouldn't pay. FYI....I didn't understand the wording until just now. It is a bit ambiguous. If that was my ad I would CLEARLY state that the auction is a bid to PAY FOR THE RIGHT to have my spot on the RS list which already has a car coming to it. And then go on to state that the winning bidder is not paying for any portion of the car with this winning bid and that all final details are between the winner and the dealer. Further I would CLEARY spell out that ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS FOR THE RIGHT TO BUY THE CAR AT MSRP, THEREFORE WINNING BIDDER IS PAYING MSRP PLUS THE WINNING BID OF THIS AUCTION.

I can't imagine ANYBODY paying 50K over sticker for this car. So right now, this RS is going for 190K??? Dear God, I have to firmly believe that the bidders are thinking the way I originally thought the auction read. I mean seriously, last week you could have had a GT3 (non-RS) at 108K from Alfie yet you think the RS is worth almost 100K more? Not a chance in hell.

My guess is also that Bidder 10 is a shill bidder. Look at his pattern. He jumped in at 40K and 50K when the bid was "only" 20K at the time.

The real test, as Max Power suggested, will come when and if other RS sellers emerge at these prices. Insane!

Being a long time eBayer I am interested in this Bidder 1, Bidder 2 etc. They seem to show up in all manner of catagories. I really think it's either a schill (less likely since they all have good feedback) or just someone trying to arb eBay purchases.

I told you fellas, one P-dealer in Chicago sold both his RS's for $45K over, to two brothers no less! No deals. So perhaps in some circles that's the F.O.B. price.

Here's what probably happened. Guy makes crazy bid (he thinks he is buying a car for 50k). Then cruises over here and reads our posts. Freaks out and calls the seller and points out what Dell points out. Auction over.

No, I think you can always retract a bid on eBay -- so, if a bidder discovered that amount was just the premium, then he or she could have simply pulled the bid. More likely scenarios: (i) someone e-mailed the seller with a crazy offer (e.g., I will give you $75k for the right to buy the car if you accept my offer right now, and stop the bidding process) or (ii) maybe the seller didn't intend to the sell the car at all, but was just curious as to the premium (FMV). We will never know.

Yes, bid retration is easy in the case of an ambiguous ad. I did not find the listing that ambiguous but I intuitively knew what was being "sold".

Third possibility is that the guy knew Bidder 10 or whatever was kiting him and packed it in. We'll see if it turns up again.

If not, your scenerio 1 is a distinct possibility. You guys are very crusty, there are folks out there who "gotta have it". Hell, new 430 Spyders are at an $80K premium and there are many more of them.

The VIN was made up...it was not authentic but the seller did say he will provide the real VIN.
