***997RSR photos and team introduction***
We have a client/friend that has just taken delivery of a 997RSR to compete in the American LeMans Series for 2007.
Chassis #916 traveled via 747-400F from Germany to Atlanta on Polar Air Cargo. Since the 996RSR was dimensionally smaller, it could fly in what is known as a “Combi” or combination freight/passenger plane, which has a lower cargo deck that takes large items. With the added height and width of the 997, the car now has to fly in a pure freighter. The added cost for that alone was enough to make you question why in the world you got started in this hobby in the first place.
Chassis #916 arrived Sunday and cleared customs Monday morning. The wait was finally over. Now the real work begins.
Team Trans Sport (Car #54) is the name under which this car will compete. The care and maintenance is being handled exclusively by Miami based Bell Motorsports.
Team Tran Sport is excited to announce that they will be the sole Porsche running on Yokohama tires for the 2007 ALMS season. All tires and engineering support will be provided direct from the factory. A container of various tire constructions and compounds are already awaiting the team’s first outing.
Pre-season testing in Germany showed Michelin with a slight advantage, but Team Trans Sport and Yokohama feel that with their combined efforts, they can bridge the gap.
All of this work is preparation for the 12 hours of Sebring, which is being held on March 17th.
The owner of the car has been giving me updates during the purchase process. We've discussed technical aspects and available options. It's been very exciting to get an inside look at what it takes to buy such a car.
Throughout the race season I will be posting updates. I will also do my best to have the team owner and drivers do a little "Q&A" on the forums.
Please have a look at the photos. I will answer any question that I can. I am also working on getting some video as well.
