The published weight by Porsche includes the 68Kg driver and 7Kg luggage for the EC figure, and no driver/no luggage for the DIN figure. However, there is no way they include a 90% fuel tank. Rumor is that Porsche doesn't follow the 90% fuel tank directive, so the weight listed is for cars with all fluids but no fuel (call it cheating).

On the 996 GT3 the published DIN weight was 3043 lbs. The ROW car came with the 23.5 gallons fuel tank, that's 130 lbs just on fuel weight at 90% capacity. If I add that number to my bone stock figures:

Bone Stock 996 GT3: 3,120 lbs with no fuel
90% ROW fuel tank, according to DIN/EC: 130 lbs
===============================
DIN Weight for my car: 3,250 lbs.

A/C delete: -37 lbs
Euro Recaro Seats : -44 lbs
===============================
DIN Weight for ROW spec car: 3,169 lbs. <== Still far away from the 3,043 lbs official weight.

Remove the fuel and the new number is 3,039. This is closer to the official specs.

Regarding the 997 GT3 weighed at AWE's shop. That car hits the scales at 3,195 lbs with no fuel. I've no idea on how to bring that weight down to the official 3,075 lbs, but let's try:

U.S. 997 GT3 weight with no fuel: 3,195 lbs

Sunroof Delete: -50 lbs (I don't think it weighs this much)
Regular Stereo: -20 lbs (woofers and amplifiers are heavy stuff)
U.S. 5mph bumpers: -15 lbs
=========================
Estimated weight: 3,110 lbs <== still far away from the 3075 lbs
A/C delete: -37 lbs
=========================
3,073 lbs <= this is closer to the published weight

For the RS, add 37 lbs on the Rollbar, remove 60 lbs on the CGT Carbon seats, 20 lbs on the LWFW, 6 lbs on the plastic glass, and the car will come close to the 3,031 lbs official figure (no fuel).

That coupled with the sunroof I guess will represent approximately 60-80 lbs. Also subtract the difference between US seats vs. ROW seats, as well as floor mats and bumperettes.
Actually, the Xenon lights are pretty light. I took them out to reduce weight for the 2006 SCCA Nationals, and the entire assembly with ballast was just 3 lbs, so I ran with my headlights.

Porsche uses the same seats for US and ROW cars. With such trick, they can claim the GT3 RS is lighter by fitting the CGT style carbon seats, otherwise the regular 997 GT3 would be lighter than the RS.

anyone got the actual scaled wt of 996gt3?
Mine sat on Intercomps at 3078 with 3/4 tank, no passenger seat, driver shell GT3 seat in cloth. Bar and belts were out of the car. Champion wheels, MPSCs. Steel rotors, BTW.
We weighed a 997 GT3 the same day, I'd imagine they were within 1 or 2% if compared in the same trim.

That will bring it down to 3,000 lbs with no fuel. PCCB are 42 lbs lighter on the 996 GT3, and FabSpeed muffler bypass pipes 45 lbs lighter.

Mine weighs 2,851 with a full interior, no fuel, and both seats. CCW 10"/12" wheels. Just 344 lbs lighter than a 997 GT3.

Full Leather adds 4 kilos to the weight. Well worth the small penalty.

It is a shame Porsche AG has chosen to play with the published car weight values.

After reviewing notes on the North America spec 996 GT3 curb weight I believe their published low number was based on little or no fuel on board.

3043 lbs. to 3152 lbs. Empty weight (depending on options): Reference the Owner's Manual

3046 lb. - on a Rennlister's 996 GT3; no AC, no options, no fuel in tank

3210 lb. - base 996 GT3 with AC and full fuel load

60 lb. - approximate weight of the AC system
30 lb. - approximate weight savings of PCCB over the iron

That's good to know, and I can more than make up the difference with lightweight doors(with intrusion bars) and kevlar carbon buckets.

It's a shame that Porsche apparently has chosen to purposely hide the truth. All their promo. info touts the "fact" of how light the RS is....

Unfortunately, many Porsches weigh considerably more than their stated weights no matter how you calculate it. The only way to be sure is to scale it.

It reminds me of when Mazda intentionally misled the public on the HP rating of the RX-8's and Mazda had to make financial restitution to the buyers.

Sounds like somebody should be getting the European CF seats for free !!

8lbs? Amazing. Where do you get these factoids? It's crazy, but this stuff fascinates me sometimes.
