One thing I don't get is that Porsche America says 415HP and the above article and a couple I have seen have said 409. What is the deal

misinformed writer...from the UK porsche.com website (as all others);
" 305kw/415 bhp @ 7,600 rpm". and if history of the bhp ratings for the 996 GT3 holds true for the 997 GT3, we will see possibly higher bhp on the dyno's....as soon as my GT3 and the RS are broken in, I will have them dyno'ed and post the results here.

the confusion is units.
Officially power in cars is measured in Kilowatts. However traditionally power is measured in Horsepower.
Different countries have slightly differently defined units of horsepower. So the German PS (German horsepower) is not quite the same as the US/British bhp.
That's the difference in a nutshell.
A quick google will reveal the exact conversion ratios.

are you saying that different Euro countries have different interpretaions of the laws of physics?

certainly NOT - the laws of physics are not defined by the units used to measure them.
one of the favourite units of measurement of astronomers is 'furlongs per fortinight', because it yields such improbably large numbers. This doesn't involve interpreting the laws of physics any differently, I might even chose a measurement of cubits per lunar day, this doesn't change WHAT is being measured, just HOW. All you need is a conversion chart.......

R+C - bravo. well answered.

"Furlongs per fortnight"...and i thought astronomical units were quaint in an era of parsecs and lightyears

It is funny that CAR says about the 997 GT3- "As for what it's for, it's simply for making you smile more than any other 911 on sale."

CAR in a previous issue had said - "The new 997 Turbo is simple the best supercar ever developed, both for track and street"

It probably has something to due to the different uses of the car and the smiley front of the new GT3.

Just journalists opinions... not an official statement by a panel of unbiased experts.
