Trade in my '05 997 Carrera S for 997 GT3?
Has anybody gone from a 997 S to a 997 GT3 yet? Or at least driven one?
The new GT3 has really grown on me and I could live with the sunroof (even though I don't want it). My car is driven on the track about 60% of the time and it is never used as a daily driver.
My dealer has availability in the '08 model year which is just fine for me.
Thoughts anyone?

My second thought is that there is no real comparison between the 2 cars their concept and execution are completely different. The 997S is a "sporting" car; and the GT3 is a true "sports" car.
My third thought is that all the drivel about the (unobtrusive) sunroof is just that (drivel), it takes nothing away from the performance or purpose of the car, and those that can tell the difference are so good that will only be happy in track cars (so the car was never aimed at them anyway).
By the criteria outlined (I was jesting, sort of about the "sporting " car above) it seems as if the GT3 would be a much more purposeful tool for you. You will find substanial differences (all better) in every aspect of the car, and since you don't need the rear seats there is no downside; except curbs and an extra spoiler(wear item) will fix that.
To get an idea of the differences go out and compare a 996 and 996 GT3 and you will begin to get a seat of the pants feel for the changes in store, except the execution in the 997 GT3 is flawless (imo).
Things you will notice immediately: Turn in is immediate, power is greater, brakes are better, chassis is stiffer, shifting is more precise, exhaust sounds are like a drug (you want more and more). It is a car that you will want to drive and drive. Oops! time for another spoiler
Hopefully that whets your appetite!

chris, why are you asking such a strange and obvious question???
i am disapointed at you now.
BUY one....
i have enslaved myself to house cleaning and doing chores/errands for wife until she nods her head on the GT3 or GT3RS.

I succumbed this afternoon. Deposit is in.
The main reason I wanted sunroof delete is because I'm tall (6'4"+) - mostly in the torso. I could use the headroom. I'm going to take out the stock seats and bolt a set of buckets to the floor. Should resolve that problem.

I believe the standard lower seats and revised pedal (brake and clutch) placement all conspire to work in your favor.

How do you find the new GT3 compared to the 996 version? I've been a passenger in the 996 GT3 but never driven one but have driven the standard 996 and a 996TT.
