Default 997 GT3 - RS Allocations

Here is a note my dealer sent me today about 997 GT3-RS allocations. Do you think this just a pitch to get me to purchase a 997 GT3 or is he for real that only 225 will be produced??

Dear Rodney:

I hate to bear bad news but the entire production (225) of GT3 RS is sold out (remember my suggestion to order early?). We have 4 solid orders with hefty deposits and not all may get to own one (subject to privileged dealer allocations).

May I suggest the “normal” GT3? There will be a few more of those and there are only 12 names on our waiting list, as of this writing. You are free to place deposits on both models, hoping that somebody may unexpectedly drop off the list. In either case, you need to commit right away (unless you want to wait 5 years for a used one).

Was told this weekend by my dealer -

GT3 RS = 250

GT3 = 750

Who knows what's accurate...

Anyone know the following:

(1) When will Porsche release the official US numbers?

(2) When will dealers know their RS & GT3 allocation numbers?

Thx,
Norm

Do we really expect there is going to be a shortage of 997 GT3 RS's coming to the US? Is this car going to be more exclusive than the Carrera GT? Porsche made too many Carrera GT's and after the initial rush these cars were offered at a discount. Could the same scenerio happen with the RS? Do we think Porsche is going to stop making the cars when they are in the 200+ range or continue to make the cars to meet the demand?

rodney - fewer GT2's came to the US than Carrera GTs, only 900 odd GT3's came to North America in total. This could happen. OTOH, if demand is there, Porsche will probably build them

Used North American 997 GT3 RS will be available in 2007 (not five years later). The 'latest and greatest model' buyers will dump them.

I can't believe that Porsche will not fill demand orders. They are a profit driven company and could care less about exclusivity. Otherwise there wouldn't be 6+ brand new CGT's at my dealer who is willing to give deep discounts on them. This is just marketing. You may have to wait a year or so but everyone willing to pay will get one. (Just my opinion). Remember the CGT? At first, you had to pay a hefty premium to get one, then you could get one for sticker and now you can get them at a discount.

I just called my dealer and he said that the allocations for the RS have not been made. He also said he has a "good" customer who now wants one so he now has to find two. He said if he can't get me one, he is sure he can get me a 997 GT3. My feeling is if I can't get the RS, I am going to get a 996 GT3 and save the $50-60 extra. I told him that and he just said "whatever."

FWIW I am told that North America will get about 300 RS, with 30 coming to Canada. I am also told that the sun-roof issue may change in our favor. I hope so.

Regards,

Yes, I really think there will be some used 997 GT3 RS in 2007. A couple months of 'look at my cool car' and then some owners will flip it for something else.

Was speaking with a fellow Dad (996GT3 owner) while the kids were karting today.

His dealer has confirmed his 997 GT3 RS for June/July delivery and told him that his is 1 of only 45 in the first run for the US.

FWIW, he has picked green.

Think that might have had something to do with Group B homologation?

I have a confirmed order for a Green RS which was placed 12 months ago. Only 8 cars are coming in to Australia one for each state. PCA want to up that to 16 but this seems unlikely to happen. My wife and I have owned a number of Porsche but we had to be "approved" by PCA for the RS. We were told that if you did not have an ownership history of previous "GT" Porsche you would not be considered for allocation.

We have already paid a substantial deposit for the car. Delivery is in mid Feb 07.

I here that US cars will not have the lightweight glass and other changes from eurospec.
