Default Tire Pressue Monitoring System @ the track?

Someone posted an update to the preliminary order guide stating TPMS would be standard. Is this bit of technology going to be a problem when experimenting with different tire pressure?

I asked my dealer this question and the answer would appear to be 'yes'.

It seems that it can identify the type of tyre and is calibrated to the appropriate factory recommended pressures. If it detects a difference, it provides a warning to increase or reduce the pressure in the offending wheel(s).

Clever, but could be a pain.

TPMS works fine with my 997 on the track. Granted I've only used it with street tires, but it's a great way to keep track of pressure increases. I've experiemented with pressures as low as 32 cold all round. The warning light has never turned on, and I alternate the main OBC display between TPMS and the Sport Chrono start/stop readout (which is also really neat).

IIRC, TPMS will be required on all 2007 US vehicles.

Thanks for those comments. I'm getting a 997 S X51 that has TPMS and was wondering how it will behave on the track.

i know it's not a gt3, on my lowly cayman it has TPMS. i am so f'k sick of it i am about to sell the car and buy another cayman without it.

i run fikses and jongbloed on track. anyone can install a beru sensor in there so the damn cmoputer will not show the light on my dash???

everytime i glance down at the dash, the yellow light and red exclamation mark scares me, thinking something is about to blow up in my car.

I've had an exclamation mark for the last 1400 miles (airbag fault b/c of GT3 seats). Put a piece of black tape over it.

I remember with my M3 awhile ago, I had five separate warning lights on the dash, and everything was fine: TPMS fault (notoriously finicky), DSC off (is there any other way to drive a BMW?), low fuel (long day, what can I say), low windshield washer fluid (I am liberal with the fluid), and seatbelt warning (harnesses were on). You eventually get attuned to these things.

Yes, just got it fixed today. When I put the key in, the airbag (the little picture of a blown airbag) blinks a few times, then stops. No exclamation point. Everything else is peachy.

btw, I have PSC tires on the car now, and TPMS hasn't made a peep. It's at 37/39, I believe. Only 40 miles on the tires though.

on track, i aim for 32/35 hot.
after track day, on my way home, tire cools down. 32/35 hot on track is about 28/28 cold or on street. at that point your TPMS will go nuts. of course you can pump up the tires before you leave track. but i am lazy and after 200 track miles, i am wasted, just want to go home....
