I paid cash for my 997S, my GT3, C4S, and C2. I think I'm done with that, as my buying habits dictate leasing. . . but damn, getting locked in for 3 years is a LOOOOOOONG time.
I'm married and can't rotate wimmen, so cars iz my vice.

As to leasing, I still see the fees for early termination (I mean, who the hell keeps a car for 2 or 3 yrs) make up virtually all you think you are saving.
FWIW, I believe Henry Ford said not to pay interest on a depreciating asset. Anything you buy or lease ties up money...

Anyway,since I don't plan on selling the RS to anyone anytime soon, and since I expect the value to be retained I'll have to look carefully at a lease for that one. I expect no more than a few tohusand miles/yr so we'll just have to see what the deal is.
As I have said, unless they really weenie up the RS I expect it to hold value better than any recent Porsche.

You guys really got me thinking about leasing. Especially with all this "who keeps the same car for more than 2 weeks" talk.

I agree w/Allegretto. I never really considered a lease but if residual is right I'm going to lease 36, maybe 39 mo. and pay cash at the end if I want to keep it. I will crunch the ###'s when I have them. I truly hate payments and I may consider cash buy if I don't lease. I think it will be safe to speculate on depreciation(if any) once we know what kind of RS they'll give us.

But what is "the thing" worth when you own it. Presumably the difference s 24 more payments plus the $15k deposit, so around. $60,000 more. Is the car still worth that much after 5 years. I think that may be the magic question.
Also, since I am about to get a GT3, I'd love some expert opinion. Over here in the UK, 2004 GT3s are around $60,000 but for $75,000 I can jump 3 years and one generation forward. I had assumed the 996 was holding value better but I saw the comment about the 996 GT3 depreciation issue, so now I'm not sure. I have around $75,000 to play with, but would like to get $40-45,000 back after 4 or 5 years, so some depreciation is acceptable, but I want to make the smart call. So, late 996 or early 997. Opinions please.
