It will make it much easier to follow all the posts on the 997 vs. hunting and pecking thru the 996 GT2/GT3 Forum. Anyone else have thoughts? Thanks

Given the simularities, why not add the 997 GT3 and RS to this forums?

On second thought, why not.

I agree.

Add the 997 GT3 and RS to this forum.

Many of the leasons learned from the 996 GT3 can and should be applied to the 997 GT3 and 997 GT3 RS.

Same forum.

I view this question sort of like the Boxster/S and 987 forums. It's just 2 forums to check instead of one. That's the biggest problem why I don't visit RennTech much anymore. There's like 20 forums just for 986/987/996/997.

I think the bottom line (IMHO) is that there's not that much traffic and posts in each to justify.

I agree on doing combined 996 & 997 GT2/GT3 forum. 997 GT3 & GT2 are being discussed here already (seems that majority of is actually 997 stuff) and the name of this forum is GT2 & GT3 without specifying 996 so I guess there's no need to change anything.

I agree that 996/997 GT3 should remain combined. But being a relative newbie, why is the GT2 combined with the GT3, turbo vs. na?

Small population here for support so I think we should keep it as is.

Guys,

Let's see how the two forums work. If it doesn't I'll merge them. Right now, the majority of people who contacted me want to see a 997 specific forum. I believe this is because for a while there will be speculation about what a 997 GT3 (or RS) really is. Once that phase is over, I suspect there will be technical discussions which will probably be very similar to those that have been covered on the 996 GT 2/3 board. While there are differences, I suspect that the underlying cars are very similar. FAQs about alignment, tires tire pressures etc. will depend on the acquired knowledge of the 996 GT2/3 board.

As to why there is no GT2 specific forum, the answer posted above is correct - there are not enough GT2's to achieve critical mass and the technical aspects of the 2 and 3 are quite similar. If the 997 GT2 comes in at over 200K as I expect, I think we'll see limited numbers of them again.

Best,

FWIW : Porsche uses "GT3-1" for the 996GT3 (mk1 and mk2) and "GT3-2" for the 997GT3/GT3RS

This is a good idea. I have been waiting for a separate forum, I hope it works out.

Also, I agree about the question of combining the GT-2 with the GT-3. I never understood that, it should be combined with the TT since they have much more in common.
