Default Brake noise 997 GT3

Hello ,

i need some help for a friend’s 997 GT3 3.8 , iron brake.

He noticed a small drag noise from the front disc while driving slowly close to a wall .

Once the wheel in the air , he spinned it , and there is a dragging noise coming from the both wheels …

He would like to know if its normal ? Here is below the vidéo of the situation :

if some of you can check on your car i would appreciate it !

thanks

HI, I've had the same problem- it is not normal. In my case it was the piston in the caliper which would't "return" the pads enough after braking.

This can be renovated with a kit (and do both sides).

The noise is exactly the same on both side … it means , 2 pistons are stuck in the same time ?

no vibration , no bad feeling when braking box

If the wheel spins it’s fine. If the pad was really rubbing, it wouldn’t spin like that.

have him try this. Honor and bed the brakes and se rid that helps. If it doesn’t remove the pads and clips, clean and regrease the clips.

Update on this issue

I’m wondering if the problem is not coming from the set up :

- I assume there is a plate behind the pads ( oem) that had been removed.
- The antisqueal Shrim ( spider) are also missing

Do these two parts play a fundamental role in the retraction of the brake pads.

other possibility …
-The master cylinder is not working properly and it doesn’t help the pistons going back

- or the Last one : The brake pads cannot stay straight; since the camber is negative, they tend to press against the disc

Anybody can help me ?

thanks

Your pads pull back from the brake rotors by a fraction due to the nature of the caliper piston seals which have a little "springiness" to them. When you step on the brakes, the piston push out a tiny bit and the seals flex. When you relate the pedal the seals pull the pistons off the rotor by a fraction. Your camber has ZERO to do with any of this. The way the wheels spin in the video is perfectly normal.

The anti squeal shims play no part in any of this.

My wheels/brakes do this too. Always assumed it was normal.
