I was going to buy Quick Jacks in the Memorial Day sale but came across a couple of horror stories online of the jacks sliding out from under the car that gave me pause. Could obviously be user error but do you guys who have them, trust them enough to actually work under the car?
I’m now thinking of buying a scissor lift instead. It’s about 3x the cost but as a once off purchase I think it’s probably worth it if it’s safer.
Anyone have any that they’d recommend? Seems like a lot of them come from China and end up with various brands, but are mostly the same
I would do a four post lift but my garage is tight and my floor surface and depth is probably not trust worthy for a two post

My car is currently up on Quick Jacks to change the oil, replace brakes, and change the brake fluid. I never have any worries about working under the car. I did see where someone placed a jack stand between the upper and lower part of the jack when it was up, for added safety, but I have not felt the need to do that. The one issue I have run into is that my car is so low that when I place the blocks under the lifting points the jack is too close to the body to be able to remove the outer screws on the belly pans. If you are removing the belly pans you need to remove the outer screws before putting it on the lift. I have no experience with any other type of lift.
Look, obviously it could be operator error but I saw enough examples of cars coming off the quick jacks to give me pause.
they look like an awesome convenient product so was interested to hear what you guys thought
I suppose feedback is going to be heavily biased one way or another. Either you’ve had good experiences or one bad one and your judgement will be based on that lived experience
I have a four post lift that I use mostly for storage, and I also have a set of quick jacks if I need to take the wheels off. The quick jacks seems to be nice and stable. I do put a jackstand in there with a small board "just in case". Probably extremely unlikely to fail, but I'm neurotic. Only take a sec to put in and makes me feel better. I think the quickjacks are a great option for the price.

Thanks,
The failures I’ve seen haven’t been from the jacks collapsing, more a situation where the jack slid out from under the car. Again could be user error, slippy floor, any number of things
Never had an issue with the quick jack. It's hard to imagine a scenario that would cause the jack to slide. Most of the "horror" stories I have heard are from people lifting the car from the wrong spot (which is not a quick jack issue) or from improperly bleeding the system so that the LH and RH side raise at different rates (which is solved by proper set up but is indeed an "issue" unique to the quick jack)
I love my Quickjack and I have NEVER had an issue with it. Once you raise your car make sure that you lock it in place.
Also for those that say it doesnt easily fit under the car... because of the oversized framing on the 7000 it does not slide under a GT3 easily so unless you're using it for other SUV's etc I would go with the 5000 series or 3500. There is a youtube showing the 5000 series loading over 16,000 lbs so I think you'll be fine with any of them.
Been using them on everything from air cooled to 7GT cars for about 5 years for every imaginable project. If a car comes off, it wasn’t properly lifted or secured.
I have had some “oh sh*t” moments where one side didn’t latch concurrently with the other, and that could cause a slip. But if you’re super careful and diligent about setup, maintenance, and precise lifting, there will be no issues. Always possible that one of the fittings could fail while in lifted position, but that’s why you use a jack stand as others have shown above.
Very safe and secure if setup and used properly. That said, I’d still rather have a scissor lift that allowed me to sit / stand under the car.
I have been using quickjacks for at least 7 years with no issues. Just need to take your time with setup making sure they are in the right spot forward and aft as well as making sure they lock in place. I have done everything from oils changes to replacing my LSD using them and have always felt safe under the car.
