To quote a good friend of mine that’s often on here “I love talking about spending other people’s money” (close paraphrase). Chase that frog! Man I had the green addiction BAD. I’d have sold my first born to get one, once upon a time. Something about that car that makes men do irrational things. And yes I used MEN because my wife has often told me how stupid I am for paying what I’ve paid for jelly bean colored cars. She won out somewhere along the line and I have ended up with a silver and white Porsche??

I can relate. I've been on the enabling side. Love spending OPM.
I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum: always loved color but never owned it. I've lusted after maritime, signal, viper and many others but all my 911s have been monochrome.
Time to change that, but in my case, it's self inflicted.

There’s a 1 of 1 997.1 RS 3.9L Manthey Racing in RS green for sale at Porsche Monterey right now: https://www.porschemonterey.com/used...addcaae203.htm.

Certainly looks epic and should have the performance to feel like an upgrade over your .2 GT3

I thought about recommending it, but got the sense he wanted something original. Regardless, that’s a wildly epic car.

Looks so epic. If it had been on the market 3 months back I’d have gone for it.

.1 RS in green is it! .2 in same green doesn’t do it for me for some strange reason. Something about the clean lines of the .1 RS cars that begs for a bright color and it just seems right.

That’s part of what sold me. .1 lines are just stunning. The bumpers are so intricate. Artistry. Needs bright colors to accentuate. But I saw RS Orange in person for the first time at Luft last year, and that was it. I was done.

When I was shopping for an RS, I knew the the .2's were the better faster car but I couldn't get over how beautiful and classic the .1 RS looked. It's like one of the most perfect looking cars ever produced. I think it will stand the test of time and become on of the most beautiful 911's ever made.

Just to wind you up a little more:

2nd only to my 65 911, if I had ever kept a car to just stare at, this was it:

although I guess it was equally fun tossing it around as intended. But man I could just stare at that car!

I totally get the frog and pumpkin afflictions! I think prettiest water pumping 911s ever made.

I remember that pic. Like a piece of art in a museum. Absolute perfection!

Funny you say the same green on a .2rs doesn't do it, I feel the same way! But I am also a .1 fanboy so just a little biased

The Frog at P-car Monterey is sublime. The color way of course, but w a Manthey 3.9, Holy....****e! Beauty and the Beast. .1's in bright colors are perfection!

Yeah the .1 RS looks wise is just perfect! Was the first 911 I fell in love with when I saw the press launch photos. Was more of a Lambo/Ferrari fan before then but oh how times have changed. I only want Porsches in the garage these days.

Maybe someday I can add a .1RS for nostalgia’s sake but my wife might kill me before then .

As much as I love the .2 RS must concede the .1 RS is unquestionable more iconic especially in orange or green. It looks so clean and is one of the most iconic 911’s of the water-cooled era. Thought when it came out it was one of the best looking Porsche’s I had ever seen and lusted after one for years. Porsche has been trying to capture that since by offering the same black ‘GT3 RS’ decals on the side paired with a bright color, but haven’t quite captured what the 997.1 did.

I know I know, it's already been posted in the pic thread but just throwing it back up to couple with Rapid's reply. Simple, uncluttered and timeless.

You guys are awesome!

@Chris.C thank you. That's an amazing car but a bit rich at $400k.

I have spent many an hour combing through the GT3, GT3RS and PTS pic threads on this forum and many more doing searches and looking elsewhere. My conclusion is that the Frog and Pumpkin 7.1 RSs are the best looking RSs of any generation, perhaps with the '73 being the exception. They are the pinnacle aesthetically. @Jrtaylor9 that is one of my favorite pics of the green RS and it looks proper as the museum piece that it can be. @RapidGT the reason my .2 tribute to the .1RS didn't quite cut it for me despite a decent effort, is not just because of the narrower hips and smaller wing, but also because there's just something about the bumpers. I've too seen green .2RSs and it's just not the same car. This is my conclusion after going through the process that started with my .2 GT and now ends with the purchase of my first RS.

I've been holding back from commenting on this thread until the deal was secured. Three days after I started this thread and the day after my last post I found the one. 1RS Clubsport with ~20k miles from Germany with some cool options. I'm very, very happy with the car. Practically, a one owner car (he sold it to his company for fiscal reasons and then to a friend who put delivery miles on it, so technically three owners), full service records, did only two DEs, and my Porschephile friend knows both the seller and the shop that serviced it post warranty.

So, what about the Frog dream? Firstly, this won't be my last RS and the search continues for a green one. Secondly, I can always wrap the car with a perfect color match liquid wrap or vinyl wrap. What mattered to me was securing this car in this condition, with this history and at this price. The car looks better than my 6 month old 8k mi 992.

The deal is not closed yet. There are things that still need to be sorted and take time with a purchase across the pond. Full details once everything is ironed out. Anyway, without further ado... teaser pic.

PS - I contacted Manthey to get a quote. You know, since the car is in Germany and all...
