Ok so my, at the time brand new, rear tire ran over a nail last year. I didn't want to patch it but Tire Rack said they only shave to whole numbers and I think I was at something like 5.4 or 6.4 so my only choice back then was to get a tire shave to the whole number closest to the other rear tire, patch and keep fingers crossed or get two new tires. The tires were practically brand new so I opted to patch the one and well, it gave way last Friday when I ran up the Crest with the GVBC. I didn't realize it till today when I pulled the car out and it had 18 psi. I pulled it back in the garage and it sits till the collective members tell me what they would do. I think the right answer is going to be the one that digs into the pocketbook the deepest, but I'll wait to hear from you folks.

I've never had a properly patched or plugged tire fail. The sidewall on the tire you drove on with 18psi isn't safe to drive on anymore. Time to replace it.
No new nails present on that tire? I’d say replace if the patch did indeed fail. Sorry about that, but better to be safe.
Boy am I'm an idiot. I never even thought of another nail being in the tire. Will take a look in the am but I just ordered two new tires. Guess Is could cancel if it's a new nail or just say no to two patches and put new tires on.

Didn't drive on the 18psi, even though I did probably drive slightly under pressure. Last time the car was out was on December 29th. Checked psi before the 80 mile drive, then the car sat till today, which it's still sitting. The location of the patch & plus was in the middle of the outside tread block. Right in the center but on the outside tread. I always kept an eye on it and it was always in the back of mind while driving.
I just ordered two new tires and will pick them up Monday am from the Tire Rack Distribution Center. I'll have a 4.5/32nd spare rear if anyone ever needs one. Having that tire weighing on me while I drive can be distracting.

I'd probably cancel your order if you find a new nail and patch. Since you didn't drive on it when it was low (or substantially low), you'll probably be safe. However, I wouldn't blame you if you just got new tires now. Guessing you may get one more season out of your existing tires.
I'm a safety nut with this sort of stuff and while a patch is safe long term, with the speeds you see in the canyons, I'd probably lean towards replacing either way provided nails in tires aren't super common where you are. If they are, definitely patch otherwise you'll be replacing tires multiple times a year which just isn't financially feasible.
I had a drywall screw in my GT3's rear tire. Pulled it out and it looked ok. But then I tested it with liquid soap. Sat there looking at it and sure enough, a micro leak 🤦♂️. A tiny bubble would form, took about a minute to appear 😑
It would probably take a microscope to see the hole, and I had this same thing happen years ago. Every two weeks or so the tire pressure went down by a pound. So, I had it patched. I would save the tires you bought, have a new patch put in and use up the current tires.
There are some permanent sealers, like Ride-On and Permashield-there are YouTube reviews on some of these if anyone wants to search https://permashield.com/tiresealant/
Ride-On has high speed motorcycle users. I've never tried any of these.
On track, I'd be a bit nervous about using a patched tire, especially if you're running lots of laps.
As an instructor, it's something that I ask the student. A plug and patch can delaminate once tire temps get hot on track and then it's a catastrophic blowout. I won't instruct in a car with a plug/patch.
