Default 991 GT2 vs 997 buckets

Hi all - I’ve done quite a bit of searching but haven’t been able to 100% confirm this question. Is the seating position between the 991 GT2 ROW (eg from Carnewal) folding buckets and original 997 GT3 folding buckets identical? I see some complaints of the buckets sitting high in the car - is that only true of one over the other, or would they sit identically? I believe the shells are identical, so the only source of difference would be the rails…

I know the ROW GT2 seats don’t have occupancy sensors for airbags and have subtly different cushions - can ignore that for now.

In general, the seating position in 996/997 generation is high/tall. The 997 folding buckets are the highest in comparison to the 996 and 997 fixed back seats. If there is a difference between the 991 & 997 its subtle. You might want to look at the 991 fixed back seat, it might be a lower position than 991 folding seat. Someone here recently installed the 991 fixed backs (search).

Alternatively, ditch the sliders and mount the seats to the floor (you gain an inch+). I have the 996 fixed backs and I want to get lower, but having OEM sliders is nice.

Bill Murray is correct, as always. The folding buckets sit tall. I used Cantrell brackets which helped a bit, maybe .5" or so.

I'm mounting them to the floor to get a bit more height, picked up a used set of Brey Krause mounts. I'll see how they sit when I get my car back in a few months.

I’ve had the 997 folding buckets and currently have the 991(RoW) folding buckets.
Purely anecdotal but the 991 versions sit noticeably lower than the 997 versions I had in the same car. My gf and a friend of mine said the same without my suggestion.

Having had Recaro Pole Positions on BK sliders in between the sets of folding buckets, those sit very low and it felt high when I got the RoW seats in. After about a week that feeling was gone. No helmet issues but can’t speak for harness stuff if that’s a concern for you.

With all of the people doing the seat inserts I’m not sure why someone hasn’t made a “thin” version. Could easily get a few inches down into the seat with that vs fiddling with mounts and such.

I’ll be in the Bay Area sometime in February if you wanna try them out.

Both my RS and GT3 have 997 folding buckets, my GT3 have the Cantrell adjustable side mount on it's lowest setting and they are perfect for me. A good friend of mine sat in my GT3 and ordered a set for his GT3 shortly.

Waiting for spring to install a set on my RS.

Thanks all! Good to hear there are options regardless.

Part of my Q on 991 vs. 997 versions is also to calibrate the feedback I've seen from various people...as well as understand what I might be buying fully! So interested for any views from others on the comparison.

I've got 996 buckets in the car now and they're actually a bit low for my tastes...so not unhappy that the 997/991 buckets sit higher.

I saw scuderia v shop was selling a new set of 992 folders. Anyone know what the differences and or similarities to the 991 ones are? My timing is terrible and the 991 RoW seats with heat not being available new anymore is a real bummer.
