Default Brake Calipers! Paint or PC?

Time to remove those yellow calipers and turn them another color (gloss black) but have a few questions. I'm assuming that the original calipers are painted. For anyone who has recoated their calipers, did you paint or powder coat them? Looking around it seems like every shop wants to powder coat but I feel that paint is the better more OEM option.

Thoughts?

Thanks

I've always done PC, Dave at Renewed Finishes in PA is my go to. He's done numerous wheels and calipers for me over the years.

Dave rebuilt and coated a set of 986/996 calipers I put on a BMW.

That's exactly what I'm going for. Black with white lettering. Thanks for posting those pictures.

I've been wanting to redo mine as well and had the same concerns. Additionally, do you need a rebuild kit for the calipers?

Just to chime in - a couple years back I bought new rear calipers, direct from Porsche. They came already with a few small chips in the finish. I'd probably choose PC just for the fact that it should hold up better. Keep us posted with whatever you choose.

I recently had my calipers rebuilt and refinished by PMB Performance out of Utah (www.pmbperformance.com). They use paint. I was really happy with their attention to detail (e.g. Porsche logo size is correct between the front and rear calipers). This is the 2nd set of Porsche calipers that I’ve had them do. One word of caution, your car will be parked up on jack stands for a bit, it takes them about a month turn around to get the calipers back to you.

I would. Not sure if you've ever checked your seals, but there's a good chance they've seen better days. I'd probably do the whole racing brake piston/seal kit if I did it over.

I was foolish. I had my calipers completely rebuilt only a few hundred miles ago, but didn't repaint at the time. I'm pretty close now to getting them refinished. Did I throw about all that money for the rebuild?

Absolutely not. You can reuse everything you just installed.

I've done both paint and powder coat over the years on a variety of different applications - both methods seem to hold up pretty well, and at least for me, I found the shop's expertise and attention to detail mattered more than the method. Unless you're looking for a complex color that's difficult to powder coat (black on white lettering should be easy enough for either method). I had Dave at Renewed Finishes powder coat calipers, valve covers and intake plenum for me on a different car and the work was top notch - takes a while but he he'll be my go to again next time I need something refinished.
