Default Rear shock mount brands

I’m overhauling a lot of the control arms/bushings on my 58k Gt3.

shop recommended front shock mounts so I am going with Tarett monoballs.

i figure while I am taking apart both the front and rear I might as well do the rear upper shock mounts. My understanding is all 997 used the same rubber units. Has anyone used the elephant racing shock mounts in the rear? I don’t want rear monoballs so I am leaning toward OEM since I drive on the street a lot.

The Tarett upper mounts are a severe downgrade. They use cheap FK Aurora monoballs and pain in the **** screw in studs instead of press in studs if I recall.

Go with OEM 7GT3 front uppers. Same parts used on the Cup/RSR. Monoballs are high quality Hirschman parts. Stick with OEM for the rear too.

Have you used them and have you had premature wear or failure? Tarett gets a lot of good reviews, your opinion is really the first recommending against them so I am just curious if you have had a bad experience which the product.

agree with sticking with the OEM front top mount. I landed on ERP rear hats which seem OK. I doing know what bearings they use, but my other ERP parts show no play or wear after many, many miles of use. Same as the factor cup/rsr parts I have on the car.

I don’t have much to add other than I recently rebuilt all 4 tarett shock mounts. The bearings were ~$100 all in.

Could you tell me the reason for a rebuilt, was it obvious wear or "while I am in here"? If worn, how many miles and was it street vs track?

Bought the car with them and the rears were clunking. They were paired with ohlins but everything else was stock. I just redid every arm, bushing, etc.

They’re at least 3 years and a couple thousand miles old. I’ll try to get a better estimate.

I start this thread a little while ago too, hopefully their life isn't 3 years and a couple of thousand miles. At this point I bought them (rears) and will go ahead with the install but if they fail in less than 40K miles from now then def back to stock.

I don’t think there’s any secret when it comes to rear shock mounts. It’s a pretty simple part.

The tarett design uses com14 bearings, so even if they fail you can replace it with the bearing of your choice. I just went with tarett since I was changing so much already.

Here are two links for com14 bearings. I believe the first is the one tarett uses.

This aurora one is $62.

I just bought a pair of Rennline rear monoball upper mounts. As far as I can see, they are the only booted rear shock mount on the market. They seem very similar in terms of OE height etc.. Time will tell on bearing life, but gave them a shot.

I used Elephant racing's rear monoball mounts on my 991 GT3 and don't have any complaints. Prob need to check them after 4 years though, lol.

I’m not sure what the necessary Static Radial Load Rating is, but I would imagine the cheaper one is fine.
wow thanks for the intel! I am going to make a sticker with the bearing type and plop it onto the mount itself, years from now when I have to replace it the future self will thank the current self, and of course you for the info

The previous owners I know had all bought the car with them. Unknown age and mileage.
