Default I heard there was a little car show - road trip

I’ve been to every luft since 3 except the one in uk and Indy, and i think 5. Had my cars in all of them. Patrick has been very gracious with placement of my old toys.

this one being in nor cal and , omg a water day too, used this as a way to get some of the band together for a little drive.

put 1300 miles on the rs, car was a champ. Mostly some of the best back roads in ca. the whole way. Wife even road along!

used to do a lot of these pre Covid. Now i need to crack out of my introvert shell and do more.

the drive was great, food great, show great. We had the benefit of a record rain year so the amount of green hills and wildflowers was just insane.

The Greek, mooty, boosted toy, Chrisf, and some others joined in the fun

53.5k miles and counting on the rs. Drive your Porsches!

Nice to see fellow RL'ers out enjoying their cars together!

I've only been to Luft 5. Did they start allowing entry for newer (water-cooled) models at Luft 8?

Lovely photos! Was gutted to miss this when it was so close, but was out of town.

Where are the first few photos of the driving roads taken?

This is the first one. Saturday was a normal air cooled show. Then on Sunday was a little less "formal" show with a mix of air and watercooled Porsches. Lots of fun stuff there!

I live in South OC, so I drove up late and stayed night in Santa Clarita, got early start Thursday... we took:
I5 up to Frazier park
Got off freeway and took 95 W towards 166 - this is a great road I hadn't taken before. Usually I'd take 33 over from Ojai but its closed
Then 166 to 33 up near Mckitrick - basically, this is like CA oil country, flat oil wells, and boring...
Then, the best part, 58 W up over the hills to 101. This is a GREAT road.
Took that to 101, had lunch in Atascadero
Then 101 up to 198, then 25 all the way north through pinnacles park up to Hollister
From there, just took 101 to friends house in the San Jose area.

So very open 2 lane roads the whole way, didn't see other cars for hours on these...

Up in Marin we did lots of roads near Point Reyes / Sonoma area.

I've always admired your silver 7.1rs. Clean looking machine.

Somehow I just missed you guys at more than one point!
Over the weekend did Point Reyes per @chrisf 's recommendation and some wine country.
The 84 to the 101. I normally would take the 1 down as far as I can but its still closed for another few months unfortunately.
Took the 58 West on the way back home to San Diego and stopped at Carizzo Plain to check out the super bloom.

So much good driving. Love to see others out there enjoying their cars.
Almost 2 years with this car and over 30k miles already.

Super stoked to be able to get all 3 of my cars in the shows last weekend! Got to park the GT3 up with my buddy Rick’s RS in the main hall, too!

I just mapped out your route. Wowza is all I can say. I never knew that there was actually a back door way out of Frasier Park. I thought the 5 was the only access. Glad you had a safe trip.

In a perfect world, you stitch together 33 / Lockwood Vally Rd and Hudson Valley Road to 166 but Hudson Valley by itself is really one of the great un-discovered roads in SoCal. I discovered it back in the early 2000's back when I lived in LA. Doesn't seem to have changed much given how isolated it is.

Those photos look great Spyerx, thanks for posting! It looks like some great guys and a great drive. Did the red GT2 keep up?

I had every intention of attending my first! But unfortunately, I had an eye injury while grinding under an old car, despite wearing corrective/safety and goggles! I ended up with eye surgery and now acting like Snake Plissken. I cannot see anything.
