you know it's funny you say that about the clutch on that car - AutoKennel sent out 2 email noticed when it first became available. The first one mentioned the tech noticed the clutch was slipping and it could use a new clutch soon (or something along those lines), then the page was edited, and another notification email was sent with that info removed. beautiful salesmanship!
That’s too bad, I didn’t see the first advertisement obviously. The overall experience was good, but there are a few things I need to address. Remember anything else from the first one??
At 143K miles I performed the following services (1st time engine out):
1. 1st new clutch. Still good, but "while you are in there"...
2. Refurbished heads due to low compression on two cylinders. Bottom end untouched.
3. Welded remaining coolant lines
4. Guard LSD internals.
5. Replaced all vacuum lines
6. Coolant tank.
These engines are very robust. Just change oil and filter regularly along with plugs at suggested intervals. I've yet to have to do anything with injectors other than run Techron every once in a great while.
I still have the original shifter cables, but bought a 997 shifter that I am making new bearings for that I need to install. Again, these cars are very robust, so I would do more driving than worrying about maintenance at such a low mileage as yours. The worst issues are things like rubber and plastic degrading over time with heat. I've had some hoses and vacuum lines leaking over the years, but every car has that issue over time.
It is really amazing how you can drive these cars to a track, wring them out, then drive home and repeat without exotic amounts of work to keep them running.
Appreciate the detailed response! Agreed, car responds so well to whatever I throw at her. I still have PTSD from my E46 M3 so I feel compelled to “over replace” wear and tear items. Clutch feels like it has a very slight judder (I think my car spent a lot of time on the track) so I will eventually take care of that when I install LWFW and get LSD done too (not sure if mine is still working). I might do the coolant tank eventually as well but no signs of leaking. I did the tank and pipes and water pump on my 7.2 GTS when it wasn’t clear where the coolant leak was coming from. Thanks for letting me know about the shifter cables, again I think due to track abuse I just need to keep an eye on that.

Thanks bro! Looks like we’re considering similar mods with the LWFW and clutch. Good luck with the leak, definitely take care of that sooner than later!

Is a significant portion of the mileage in the highway? How many estimated track days? Mine was replaced at 48k miles, and has 78k miles now…but it’s starting to feel different.

Well, we traveled all over the place with the car, so there is a significant amount of highway, but we also did our share of country roads as well as in-town.
I'm autocrossing the car, but no track time.
Been driving manuals for 40 years, so I seem to be good enough at it.

Drive your 911s people...they are quite literally built for this stuff and will last a VERY LONG time if properly maintained. The more miles, the more smiles!
For the most part it seems like these cars have been properly driven, tracked, even crashed in some cases. I think it’s cool to see considering their relative value and rareness.
