Default 350mm to 380mm Steels

Hoping for an easy answer on this one, done lots of searching but no clear answer.

7.1 GT3 want to go from 350 steels to a 380 floating setup.

Is it just a case of buying some brembo/pf/girodiscs and some caliper spacers or is there more to it?

362mm floating rears sounds an easy job with caliper spacers to match, it's just the fronts I'm stuck on!

Thanks
Rich

You can get thr PET and compare the .1gt3 to its .1pccb optioned model. The .2 rotors fit ok. My .1 was a pccb car and i have .2 rotors and pads fit fine. It’s the fronts that are different.
In general tho, for front it’s the uprights, calipers, bolts, brake line tubing, rotors. Rest should be same.

The 7.1GT3 steel (350) uses different wheel carriers from the 7.1GT3 PCCB (380) car. Caliper bolt spacing is 146mm on the 350s and 225mm on the 380 wheel carriers. In order to upgrade to the 380 brakes, you will either need to purchase the PCCB front wheel carriers or the OEM Porsche 380mm Brembo adapters (997.351.505.02) that are used on the 997TT PCCB cars. The adapters are about $180 each and will bolt to the 997.1GT3 steel wheel carriers.. You will also need the OEM adapter bolts (999.073.313.09).

You will also obviously need the 997.2GT3 380mm calipers in order to use the 380 rotors. You can get these in red (steel) or yellow (PCCB). Finally you will want to buy the front brake lines used on the 7.1PCCB car although you can bend the existing lines on the 7.1 steel car. The brakes lines are cheap, about $20 per side.

From a purist standpoint, I would purchase the 997.1 PCCB uprights instead of using the adapters. Will cost an additional $3K however. Don't mess with the rear set up. Keep it at 350.

Thanks for the super detailed responses there!

I didn't realise it would be a new caliper job... I'll price some up, if it's too much it'll be similar to just go for an aftermarket bbk setup?

Kinda screws up my winter project while it was off the road

Powdrhound covered it thoroughly. Yes, unfortunately migrating to larger 380mm discs on the 7.1 iron-equipped car is not cheap or easy. We have some outstanding AP Racing 2-piece J Hook discs in your OEM iron sizes if you do decide to stay with stock-sized discs. Our discs flow more air, run cooler, and last longer than anything else on the market. You can see them here: https://www.essexparts.com/my-vehicl...RS/Iron%20disc

Lots of customer reviews of our products on our blog here: https://www.essexparts.com/news-blog

Let us know if we can help.

Thanks for the reply Essex.

I'll be going 380 fronts with the later calipers, no point doing half a job.

For anyone that's been running 2 piece steel rotors on track is there a particular brand that hold up well?

GiroDisc is the best and most popular option when you're going w/ steel.

Giro disc seem to be the best bang for the buck.

Brembo type 3 are more $$$ and are a popular replacement.
J-hook AP rotors and PFC rotors are alternatives, similar price point to Brembos

I've used Brembo, AP and Giro 380s over the years. Durability is a toss up on all of them. Really can't go wrong with any of them. The Giros are the lowest up front cost but the AP J-hooks are slightly cheaper for the ring replacements. I've been using the J-hooks over the last few years. All the fronts are 72 vane. The rear 350 J-hooks are 72 vane v. 48 for the others.

The front 350 calipers are 100% physically different from the front 380 calipers on both US or ROW cars, both 7GT3 and 7TT. The 350 calipers have 146mm bolt spacing, the 380 calipers 225mm spacing. Even the 380 TT calipers are different from 380 GT3 calipers, the GT3 versions have smaller pistons.
