Default Washington DC

I have a wedding to go to in DC, the middle of October. I am considering driving my 08 GT3 the 6.5 hrs it takes to get there. We are staying at the Hyatt Place Washington Dc/Georgetown/West End. They have indoor valet parking at a bargain price of $53 per night (sometimes you can get them to let you park your own nice car there). Does anyone have insight to the roads or the area around this hotel? Is this a terrible idea?

Thanks,
Dave

Roads in DC are hit or miss these days since they are still fixing pot holes generated from previous snow storms. By October they should be all fixed though, and you should be fine. While in the DC area if you have time hit up Katies Cars & Coffee which happens early Saturday mornings in Great Falls.

I’ve never taken mine into the city but have driven M2 with slightly higher ground clearance and scraped front spoiler at another hotel entry. That would be my only concern, although I would probably still drive, if I had a occasion. I am usually not too concerned with driving around the DC metro.

If you didn't take the GT3, what would the vehicle be?

I know it can be subjective but I drove mine to VIR for a track event and back, about 4 1/2 hours each way and it was more pleasant than I thought it would be. I do have TPC DSC but also Sharkewerks bypass and 3.8 RS gear and it was still decently civilized.

I drove my 7.1 from LA to Phoenix and the drive wasn’t bad at all. As much as I love driving my car, I would not want to put 6.5 hours worth of miles on it to drive and park in a large metro city that sees 4 seasons. Chances of door dings, bent wheel, minor fender bender. And rock chips from highway driving as there will be truck drivers, etc. I would fly and call it a day. But I worry about 99% of things in life so I’ll stop here and say don’t listen to me.

I regularly do 6.5 hours. Not bad at all. I did 18 hours one way the day after I bought the car. It was fine. 😋

I actually purchased my RS in Boston, and decided to make an road trip out of it. Hit every major city coming down, Boston, NYC, Philadelphia and then DC. I thought DC was perfectly fine driving around in the RS. Always just paid valet $20 and they would let me park the car myself in hotel. After DC, hit the blue ridge mountains and then the dragon, while eventually ending up in Florida. Did a similar road trip from Seattle to LA down the PCH.

My point is, I find the RS and the GT2 buckets more than comfortable for long drives. Actually even better than a normal car. Would do 5+ hour drives no problem. Maybe a t shirt behind my back for a little lumbar support. Go drive and enjoy your car

i have twice done One Lap of America in my 7.2 RS with the fixed back carbon seats. Each time was around 3,500 transit miles over 8 days. Those seats are significantly more comfortable on long trips than my wife’s Merc SUV. Drive it!
