Default 997.1 GT3 OEM+ Upgrades

6 months into GT3 ownership and slowly going round the car tweaking and planning how I want it for fast road / light track use.

One of the interesting bits to sort early in the build are the OEM upgrades.

So far I've done the 997.2 GT3 rear arb, 5mm front spacers and the cup splitter

On the list I've got shifter + cables and the lwfw + clutch, where I need a bit of help / advice as a lot of reading isn't working here!

On the shifter front I've got the OEM 7.1 shifter with the plastic bushings, my original thoughts were cup shifter and cables but it seems you can no longer get these so my next thoughts are to go with the 7.2 GT3 metal bushing shifter and cables.

Any thoughts on this? I assume it's a nice upgrade? Or should I be looking at a different setup? I saw some further bearing upgrade kits?

Secondly, I'm planning on the 4.0 RS clutch and lwfw, one question I have here is pulley wise, I was planning on installing the RS pulley but now I've read about the Dundon pulley I'm confused. Should I stick to the full RS setup or should I go with the RS clutch and lwfw and the Dundon pulley? That's some expensive pulley btw!

Are there any other OEM upgrades I should also think about while I'm still in this phase?

Thanks very much!

The first thing you should do is have your lines pinned and welded.

I have the numeric shifter and linkage and it’s nice.

The rs clutch and LWFW is perfect cause I perfer the stiff clutch. If you don’t mind the chatter (sounds like a Ducati dry clutch) it’s a nice setup with a guard lsd

suspension I’m running splparts arms and toe links

Anything dundon is expensive. But well worth it from a lot of people I know that run their setup

Interested to hear these answers. I am currently thinking of shifter upgrade and debating CAE or Numeric. Also i want a LWFW but will wait until I do a RS gearset or R&P?

Fully agreed on the lines, I've got planned full coolant pipe replacement front and rear, new tank and pump, SW upgrade pipes and welding.

At the same time I was thinking clutch + lwfw hence the question, lsd I'm pretty set on guards 40/60 ramps.

Not sure if there's much else to do while the engine is out?

I'd highly consider a Sharkwerks bypass (or you could go for GMG, Soul, RSS etc).

Regarding the Dundon Dampener, if you're running a LWFW on a 3.8 engine car, I think it is a very smart idea. Even on a 3.6 car like you have, I'd want to run it just for peace of mind. It is made by ATI to Dundon spec. Essentially the dampener should help to prevent the camshaft actuator bolts from backing out, which can occur with the additional harmonics that are introduced with a LWFW.

Regarding shifter, my understanding is that all the 997 GT cars use the same shifter. They all have the metal bushings inside of it. If I remember correctly there were three shifters across the various 997 cars, normal 997 shifter with plastic bushings and standard throw, 997 short shift kit and then 997 GT shifter.

Regarding what else to do when the engine is out, if it was me I'd be doing a full major service (plugs, coils, belt) which is what I did when my engine was out. I'd also do coolant expansion tank (which I did a year after because I was tired of spending money when my engine was out initially). Basically anything that you'd be servicing within a year or two, I'd replace while the engine is out. You're going to save on labor and it's nice getting a car back that you know is relatively sorted. I'd also flush all fluids.
