IMO the ideal GT3 purchasing situation is buying from a good friend, when that is possible.

I have a long-time (over 40 years) very close Porsche friend with a GT3 who was more into the older air-cooled Porsches. Ten years ago I had a 1987 G50 Carrera that my brother and I had loosely backdated to the Euro 1974 Carrera 3.0 RS-look that he wanted badly but I wasn't ready to sell it at the time. Some time later he drove his GT3 from his home in West Virginia to my house in an Atlanta suburb where I made the mistake of driving his GT3 at his request. That is all it took....we swapped Porsches. Well, I did have to come up some additional cash on my end, but I didn't mind at all.

This was the "trade bait". I miss it but I have no regrets considering the upgrade.

Another great thread for prospective GT3 buyers! Thank you all! I’m going to reach out to Doug and possibly take advantage of the finders fee service, if available. Cheers!

@696 ... since you bought the 993, and were considering (back in early January) to switch out to a different 993,... where your story has moved over the last 1.5 months.....

you still in 993's with no intention of moving into a GT3?

..... personally I think 2022 (especially prior to mid-term elections) is going to be a good time to buy

It seems like I probably won’t be buying a GT3. Prices have shot up too much for me and probably won’t be coming down anytime soon.

Thanks to ALL here. I bought a 997.1 GT3 this week and appreciate the very helpful sharing process here on RL. I've owned every Porsche series from the 964 to the 991, and I must say that the 997 series is my hands down favorite!

The .1 GT3 purchase nearly closes out my 997 hi-performance 'hand' - adding the .1 GT3 to a grouping of .1 GT2, .2 3RS & .2 TTS (doubtful I will ever pony up for a .2 2RS).

Whatever my .02 are worth on factors influencing a used GT3 purchase... I concur with @bxstr and many others here; however, what I would add is that color and build/spec made a HUGE impact on my own decision. I think buying a used GT3 for street use - and/or investment - requires careful examination of the build sheet and steadfastly choosing your color. (I prefer the blown out build... PCCBs, full capability PCM, the good seats & axel lift for a non-track car).

However, that said, it was finding a unique color that was 'livable for me' that became the biggest influencer in the purchase process for me. I think triple black looks sinister and cool as F w/PCCBs and black gloss wheels, and Speed Yellow looks dynamite on all wider S, GT, RS and Turbo 911's from the beginning of time... these colors were harder to come by than I had imagined.

Since special color premiums were not addressed above, I wanted to add that in the higher performance categories a special color usually demands a $5-10k premium ...and well worth it imo!

(@696 I sure hope you buy a GT car one day...the only thing more fun in the curves would be a Ducati - HAHA!)

Thanks again ALL!
