Default Radio Screen Completely Dead After Replacing Battery

Hey Guys,

I replaced my the 9 year old battery in my .2 with a Diehard AGM. I Immediately noticed the radio was dead and the screen is dark. I have driven it a few times hoping it would reset, but so far no luck. I checked the fuses and they appear to be fine. I need to take the car in this month for its annual service/state inspection and plan on having the dealer look at it. Any other tricks or advice I can try first? I've read on a couple forums a factory new radio head is $2,100 plus labor. For as little as I use it I have a hard time spending this. Also I hate the look of an aftermarket radio. Not sure what to do.

Thanks!

Does your car have PCM with Nav etc? Everything was working normally until the battery replacement?

It does not have nav. It is only the small screen with the radio and bose audio as far as I can tell.

Everything worked fine in the late Fall when I put the car away. The car was dead in the spring (naturally). I tried to charge the old battery and jump start the car. Neither worked. I then replaced the battery and everything was perfect minus the radio.

It does not appear that the 997.2 radio has a fuse on the back of it like the 997.1 does. That was going to be my first guess was to pull the radio and check if the fuse was blown. This is in addition to the fuse in the fuse panel which it sounds like you already checked.

I'd recommend contacting Becker Auto Sound in NJ to repair. When you pull out the radio, you may want to try disconnecting everything first and then plugging it back in after 30-60 seconds to be sure it just wasn't some random glitch. Then send it in if it doesn't work.

Also keep in mind the PCCM Plus should be coming out next year (don't know a specific date yet) for the 997 cars. Not sure if it will only be 997.1, or if it will include 997.2 as well, but that will add Apple CarPlay support.

Ya, I was really hoping it would be something as simple as a fuse, but that would be very unusual with my luck. Interesting! Thanks for the update. I'll look into both of those. PCCM Plus sounds interesting.

So i just checked out both of these online. I don't see anything about PCCM plus for the 997. Becker Auto Sound sounds very promising. Do I understand it correctly that they can repair my radio and add bluetooth to it for audio streaming? Seems like a no brainer?

It's not available yet. Will be in 2022. Article here:

Yes, they should be able to add Bluetooth streaming on a 997.2 radio, but confirm that prior. I had it done on the CDR24 on my 997.1 GT3 radio. Works well. Audio quality isn't amazing, but it works. $150 or so is what I paid. Best part is you don't have to splice the wiring like you'd need to with other solutions.
