Default Lightweight builds / info? GT3

I am looking at starting my own possible project, with the aim to see how LIGHTWEIGHT one can be made.

Trying to find out as much information about what is actually possible.
Has anyone done this to either a 996.2 GT3 or a 997.2 GT3?

Of note: Air-conditioning will always remain in the car!

Fully fueled, how low can one get the weight?

I keep track of as much REAL weighs of cars, and most of the data is from the best car magazine, the German SportAuto. They test the cars properly, even the setup. And produce actually weights, FULLY FUELED. Hence in brackets the fuel tank size, especially important since 90ltrs is an option on GT3’s.

thought it of interest to all. So here are the Porsche ones. Obviously spec also has an effect.

Porsche GT4 (54ltr) = 1,379kg
Porsche Boxster Spyder (54ltr) = 1,337kg

Porsche 996.2 (64ltr) = 1,467kg
Porsche 997.2 Carrera (65ltr) = 1,486kg
Porsche 997.2 Carrera S (65ltr) = 1,450kg

Porsche 996.2 GT3 (89ltr) = 1,420kg
Porsche 996.2 GT3RS (89ltr) = 1,373kg

Porsche 997.1 GT3RS (90ltr) = 1,424kg (3.6l)
Porsche 997.2 GT3RS (67ltr) = 1,417kg (3.8l)
Porsche 997.3 GR3RS (67ltr) = 1,388kg (4.0l)

Porsche 997.2 GT2RS (90ltr) = 1,405kg

Porsche 991 GT3 = 1,448kg
Porsche 991 GT3RS (64tr) = 1,461kg
Porsche 991.2 GTS (67ltr) = 1,495kg
Porsche 991.2 GT3 PDK (64ltr) = 1,492kg
Porsche 991.2 GT3 Manual (64ltr) = 1,445kg
Porsche 991.2 GT3RS = 1,443kg
Porsche 991.2 GT2RS (90ltr) = 1,521kg
Porsche 991.3 GT3RS (64ltr) = 1,460kg

Porsche 991.1 “R” (64ltr) = 1,381kg (no AC, no PCM!)

Thanks for posting this great collation of accurate weight data. I'm pretty sure the 997GT2RS you quote has no PCM and maybe no A/C either ?

I haven’t taken note of the specs; only on the 991R due to all fan boys raving about it.

in those pictures I see a plaque on the glove box, would suggest to me that’s a 4.0RS 997? The red trim would reinforce this idea.

Wait for Tom to chime in. His car seems to be one of the lightest I've seen here.

Fair point. In my quick reading I read your comment yo state 997.2GT3RS , rather than what you actually wrote 997GT2RS.
my bad!

the GT2 has at the added weight of the intercoolers and turbochargers which will amount to 50lbs over that of the GT3. That's a lot of weight that has to be offset somehow to get it to 1405KG

Few easy things I've done:

Also removed the side mufflers and center bypass with valved side deletes and center bypass from Soul Performance. That saved the most weight and sounds incredible. I also wanted a car without the warts (sport chrono & satellite attenna) and cup holders and I got very lucky to found my perfect spec.

The reason that this is rarely done in the real world is often because there is zero resale upside to making a super lightweight 911, and usually it ends up being a downside as a deviation from stock. I dream about this stuff day in and day out but the reality of it is that other than my Antigravity lithium battery and maybe some GT2RS upgrades over time, there isn't a whole lot that 'normal' people would ever do to make a GT3 RS or GT2 even lighter than stock. I do plan to add a Kline Innovation Grade 625 inconel exhaust to my GT3 RS though, and that will be a nice amount of weight loss.

Guys like @Robert Linton are who you really want to talk to when it comes to dynamic light-weighting of a vehicle. He is doing things on another level entirely and is my ultimate hero in the world of Porsche weight reduction. As we all know it's one thing to just remove content and materials but something FAR more extraordinary to re-engineer parts for the car in order to make it lighter.

I'm a huge fan of your thread btw, as I am a weight weenie in nearly every way (cars, bikes, motorcycles). Lighter is always better to me.

I also grapple with going light weight vs losing value by deviating too much from stock, but then i tell myself, if i don't plan to sell it ever anyway, why care about value (and miles)? lol
