997.2 GT3 spark plug choices?
What is the current recommended spark plug for a low mileage 997 GT3? Factory plug is the Bosch Y5DDC. Pelican and fcp euro sell a denso plug. Anyone use these? Any others?

y5ddc is good. there is a fancy race plug that tom@tpc used on his car, but it's expensive

Y5DDC is the correct plug for sure. I believe based on the price my shop charged me they used Bosch. My friend ordered Bosch through Rock Auto. For the 997.2 DFI Engine, the OEM plug is a Bosch Part #FGR5NQE0 but I'm not 100% sure.

All threads about spark plugs confirm to stick to the Bosch Y5DDC for the GT3 engine, and I think the Cup car also uses it(I couldn't find otherwise)
There was a bizarre case a few years ago, a piece of porcelain disintegrated and damaged the piston/cylinder. The plug probably fell on the ground, made a tiny fracture and once installed, fell apart causing the damage. Good to inspect closely before installing, and if one falls to the ground, discard it. This is not a difficult DIY, I like doing it and making sure it's done right. You can find these plugs for about $7 instead of $30 at the dealer- |
Out of curiosity (I have 2nd set of dual electrode premium Y5DDC given to me, so I am not yet in the market to buy. but....) in searching for that kinda price point, I see there seems to be a lot of different variants of the Y5DDC

I am using Porsche Motorsport 991.602.201.8A, which is the factory spark plug for 991.1 Cup and GT America 4.0L, last of the Mezger engine race cars.
Its a surface-fire plug. I don't have a spare one to take a pic of. We use Bosch #5 for a number of turbo applications for track use as well. I am using the PoMo surface-fire plugs because I think its more ideal for the increased static compression ratio from the 4.0L crankshaft. Edit note: 991.1 Cup spark plugs can be used on 997 GT3 cylinder heads but won't fit on 996 GT3 cylinder heads because they are different diameter. |

Ordered Y5DDC from Rockauto. Can only order in lot of 10 so I'll have spares. $97 for 10 with tax and shipping.

BTW, it might also help to search BMW Bosch Y5DDC, some M3 cars used them-strangely it's become harder to find them, though ECS didn't seem to have restrictions on quantity-

Just want to make sure, copper (oem) and silver tip makes no difference? Why is that?
