Default Will 991 GT3 center bypass exhaust fit?

Hi, the seller of a 991 GT3 Akrapovic center bypass exhaust claims it may fit a 997.1 GT3.

Does anyone have any experience or know of any successes fitting a 991 GT3 center bypass on a 997.1? (Everything else stock)

I'm looking at pictures of the mounting points, and it looks like the key is making it fit at the hangers and onto the bumper section, notwithstanding ensuring proper coupling with the stock side muffler.

Is this something that a competent exhaust shop should be able to modify to fit, or it may not be worth a try?

Hello, according to PET, the 997 and 991 GT3 have the same centre silencer. The Akrapovic centre bypass should therefore fit your GT3. However, the tailpipes on the 991 are significantly longer and therefore extend further beyond the bumper.

I have the same question since my friend is selling me his Fabspeed cat back competition x pipe. He has a 2015 GT3 and I want to fit it on my 2007 GT3. They both look the same in the Fabspeed website.

991 is indeed not quite the same depth as 997, since the 997 is a smaller car. I randomly came across this video a month ago and should help you guys.

Thank you for providing us that video. I wonder if we can take the exhaust to a muffler shop and have the other end shorten a little. I’m installing the Fabspeed muffler delete, which is just a pipe.

The video at 18:30 shows that his tips stick out by about 3 inches. If you look at his exhaust it is a single pipe end section, which needs a chop or a tip change. His particular exhaust looks like the tips are welded on the end section. I think it's going to come down to how the end section is designed. The Akra connects the end section with the tips in this manner. So a tip change could be very simple solution. The issue with Akra is whether this end section mounts onto the bumper in any way.

Looking at this pic (991), it appears that the end section does not mount onto the bumper. So for the Akra I think I might not need an adjustment to the hanger, and just need a different tip.

The 991 GT3 Akrapovic center bypass exhaust in the classifieds will fit. The center delete is the same, it's the tip lengths that vary between the 997 and 991. The sale doesn't include tips anyways so you'd just reuse your current ones and it'll fit normally.

As previously stated, 991 center mufflers and muffler bypasses will fit 997. I bought a akra center muffler that was previously on a 991 and it fit fine with my M&M side muffler bypass pipes.

RSS shows the same part number for their 997 and 991 GT3 crossover bypass and their tips are welded on (i.e. non-adjustable). I would think that would mean that even the tips are the same length between the 997 and 991, but I have no first hand experience. Maybe call one of the manufacturers like RSS, Sharkwerks, or Soul. The Soul guys are super friendly and I'm sure would gladly provide the info.

I bought the muffler then reused the sharkwerk tips I already had. Muffler has a 997 part number.

I’m under the impression I have a 991 gmg bypass on my 997. It came with the car from previous owner. I believe he transferred it from a sold 991 to the 997. It sticks out a couple inches, which I like as it looks a little more aggressive. With that said, if I were to purchase one myself I would indeed buy the correct gen version, however not worth a few thousand to purchase 997 to lose an inch or two from tips. Also - it sounds superb!

Robocop,
Yes the x-pipe will most likely fit, however we cannot 100% confirm fitment. PM us if you have any other questions.

Thank you for responding. Can you please put them both side by side to see if there is a difference? That would really help the community. Thank you for your help!
