How are you finding the stock shifter in your car?

I'm also fairly new to the 997.2 GT3 RS and it's taking me a while to get used to the shifter. I used to have a 987 with the factory short-throw option and I loved its speed and precision. I can't say the same about the feel of the shifter in the GT3. It feels nice and very mechanical (not rubbery) but for some reason, I'm adapting slower to it than with other cars and I'm not yet confident to do fast shifts.

Not sure if the extra ruggedness of a GT3 gearbox makes it a bit less friendly...

hey
coming from a 991.2 GT3, the RS shifter is incredibly notchy--which I love. More mechanical feel than the 991.
I feel that you are not really driving the 991 as much as it is doing all the work for you (the clutch is way way too light and the shifts feel to soft). The 2nd to 3rd shift in the RS under load, is pretty tricky to get right. I found the best way was to use the bottom part of your palm and slow down in the neutral gate for a 1/10th of second (heartbeat shift) then push into 3rd. In the 991, I can literally flick the shifter into 3rd from 2nd with my pinky finger. You have to be patient driving the RS and it doesn't like to be short-shifted or driven like your grandad's Ford Crown Vic.

I have had a base 997.2 GT3 and now have a 997.2 GT3 RS, both cars I fitted numeric short shifter, cables (sans insulation) and transmission mounts. I LOVE THE WAY IT FEELS, its better than stock for me, but I like to man handle my stick (no pun intended). I have the hard transmission mount 75, not 60 and welcome the NVH. Its not for everybody, but I feel the shifter cleans up the shifting a bit, and the 2nd to third under load is much improved with the numeric. Throw in the 4.0 flywheel.clutch setup and you are rally car ready, jk. To sum it up, I would do it again and again, very mechanical and precise. YMMV
