Default Heim joints and rubber boots

Hey all, I’m in need of some advice. I’m about to install some Tarett parts on my 997. I ordered rubber boots but they’ve been a source of frustration. I can’t get them to fit over the heim joints. I’ve followed the instructions, including using the recommended snap ring pliers. But it just ain’t happening. I already tore one boot and I’m kind of over it. Is there any kind of trick to this? I’m at the point where I’d rather bin the boots and just install the parts without them.

I'd go without. Heim/rose joints are all consumables anyway. Unless you're running dirt rallies these things (incl. those most exposed to road dirt in the toe links and LCAs) will last years and after that just replace.

I tried using all manner of tools and actually found it easier using just my fingers. Definitely took some effort though. If you mail them to me I’ll do it for you and send them back for free. No kidding. I’ve done six now!

It is fairly easy with the right technique and improvised tool. Have a look.....These are circlip Pliers....use them just to stretch the banded area.

The boots are definitely a good idea to use on the heim joints. The FK Aurora heim joints Tarett uses are low quality and anything to protect them will extend their useful life span. Once you figure our a system of getting the boots on, it's actually very easy but there is a bit of a frustrating learning curve for sure. Good luck...

Coating the inside of the boot with some WD-40 also helps.

I purchased a cheap tool to install the rod end boots years ago. It has held up well and has been used to install several boots on different cars. I don't recall where I purchased it. I thought I got it from Sealsit but I don't see it on their site. The boot shown below is for the drop links.

Very cool. I envisioned a four point spreader like this in my head and it actually exists!

Thanks for posting this. I just found one on ebay for $15. Worth a shot!

It looks like something a dentist would use on a Predator. 😂

FYI to anyone from the future who might have the same issue with the boots: the Seals-it tool above really works. I was able to do 10 boots in about 10 minutes.
