Default New tires needed

I need a new set of tires for my 997 RS. They are 6 yrs old. Car doesn’t get driven enough but probably time to replace. Do I still go with the Pilot Sport Cup 2?

If you drive in rain or temps around 40, PS4S. Otherwise, Cup2’s.

I have a lot of experience with both Cup 2's and PS4S. If the car is driven only on the street, I agree that PS4S is the way to go. The Cup 2's are really a track tire that can be driven on the street, but they come with a lot of compromises on the street. In particular, they don't provide maximum grip until you get a lot of heat in them, as you would on the track. That means they don't grip that well in cold temperatures and they don't handle standing water that well. The PS4S provides an amazing amount of grip for a street tire and they are really, really good in the rain. I use them as rain tires on the track and I have seen 1 g cornering forces on a wet track.

You can get both from COSTCO with $110 rebate. They are however often out of stock.

less than tire rack? Mine is only street driven so it sounds like PS4S is the proper tire.

well written John. I have definitely experienced same with my PSC2's, and plan to replace with PS4S when I've worn out the Cup2's.

I normally use Tire Rack with install by my Indy who also does alignments. Couldn't resist the rebate and put four PS4S on my 09 Boxster I'm selling. COSTCO also sells Bridgestone RE71s which right now also have a $110 rebate making them cheaper than Tire Rack.

Rears on the PS4S are backordered nationally until May at Tire Rack.

I checked with them too. No rears available and no ETA.

I run Michelin Pilot super sports on my 997 RS. Very happy with performance and driveability on the street.
