Yep I was in the R Gruppe at the same time as this car and its owner were members. It's a lovely car. However it's less valuable than a numbers matching 73 RS. Ruf was a wise choice for the restoration but it doesn't help value. It's been a tricky car to value for as long as I've known it which is about 20 years. JBO

Yeah that is a massive cut in value. However 25 years ago these were sub $100k cars. People made different decisions back then.

More like 16 years ago, a friend of mine was selling 2 around 2003, one was Viper Green, $80K, the other Yellow, $100K.

Indeed. I was just trying to be correct with when I was in the R Gruppe and when this particular car was restored. There was a guy in the flat below me that bought a rough but solid 73 RS Orange with black graphics for $38k. I remember thinking I could get one at age 23-24 since I bought a 91 C2 for more dough. not a bad price
I know 27RS is legendary
but I was not impressed after driving one.
the 2.2S from 1970-71 on the other hand was way better than viagra.

Interesting, you prefer 70-71 over 72-73 S?
