Default .1 GT3 with RS engine-differences?

I have seen several .1 GT3 with blown engines that have the RS .1 engine installed and LW flywheel installed. How much better is this engine than the stock GT3, or is it essentially a wash? They are both 3.6L, right, with similar power? Why not go with a RS 3.8 at that point-do they not fit?

The .1 GT3 and .1 GT3RS have the exact same engine. I would assume a 3.8 would drop in nicely.

Engine wiring harness and ECU is different for a factory 3.8 because it has Vario-cam for both intake and exhaust.
