997.1 GT3 RS or 991.1 GT3?
Hello all! New here to rennlist.
I believe some of you own both of the examples being considered and wish to gather some ideas / opinions.
Shopping around for my first Porsche. No stranger to performance cars and definitely not some hot blooded new driver.
I am trying to get some feedback on which of the below you guys prefer
2007 GT3 RS (997.1) VS 2016 GT3 PDK (991.1)
This is not intended to be a daily (but knowing how good the car is I'll probably end up driving it everyday), more likely a weekend car. The sort of car you'll take out on a Sunday afternoon for a blast.
Where I'm from the resale market for this car is kindda soft (not many will commit the serious money for such a toy) so my one shot have to be the right one. Also the 991 costs >double of the 997 at this current moment.
Which do you guys think will be the better choice? Which is the more complete car?
Thank you for any help!

If you want a manual, 997. If you want an automatic, 991. That should be the biggest deciding factor. 997 is going to be more for a weekend toy. 991 is going to be slightly more compliant and comfortable. The 991 would also be the better car for the track and quicker. Best of luck, you can't go wrong with either. I would personally go with the 997 GT3 RS.

From what I've read, these are pretty different cars really. I think you'll find the 997 variety to be a bit more raw and rough around the edges, where the 991 will be faster and more polished. Not to mention the previously noted fundamental difference of one being a manual trans vs the new model having PDK.
Great to find yourself mulling such a choice. Regardless what you pick you'll love your new car.

Depends which sub-forum you post in. Personally I think 991.1 GT3s are becoming serious performance bargains if you can snag one for 100-110k (The deals are out there, just takes some looking). For me though, if I ever sell my 996 GT3 it will be to move to a 997.1 GT3RS.

Another issue which I have to contend with is the 2016 991 gt3 will set me back abt 423k usd here
The 2007 997 gt3 rs is about 220k usd
I think as of now im leaning towards the gt3 rs purely bang for buck reasons

Yeah, that's a no-brainer if those are your circumstances...

Agreed.
The 991 is not twice the car the 997.1 GT3-RS is, and will almost certainly depreciate much slower.
Probably some higher maintenance cost for a 10 year old car, but nothing that would come close to make me think twice about that price differential

For me personally, its a no brainer. I go with the manual but then again I may be biased as my current Porsche’s are all manuals. Ha
