Default Who coined the phrase “RS is RS”.

I’ve Owned 964,993,996,996TT,997TT,997GT3,997GT3RS, I am truly a Porsche guy, live and breath it. Every now and then I would read RS is RS, who started this? It’s a very simple phrase but has so much power and truth behind the three little words. Would like to thank the human behind the phrase because I use it plenty in many aspects of life even when people don’t understand what I’m speaking about.

Hard to argue with that one I don't believe the term can be attributed to one individual. Best place to look is in the slip cover RS book. JBO

Long story short.
It all began in 1973.

Nice Mike Love it! BTW RS began before '73. It stands for Renn Sport. Think R in Japan Skyline GT - R. NSX Type R. It's a term that means motorsport oriented. JBO

This thread is useless without a prize for the earliest quote finder on Rennlist.

You'll never pin down a name. That would be like trying to identify the individual in Japan that came up with "R" eg NSX Type R, Skyline GT R etc. IMO RS dates back to the late 20's before WWII and before Porsche AG was born. Racing was hugely popular in Europe and the US when the **** party was organized. I'm sure you know Hitlers interest in technology which included transportation the autobahn and motorsports in particular to showcase German superiority. Ferdinand Porsche was a contributor to this effort with the VW and it's wartime derivatives Kubel and Schwimm Wagens and the Panzer and Tiger Tanks. RS was a term that is Germanic in origin and signified motorsports oriented vehicles like the Auto Unions and Silver Arrows that dominated their era. It's no surprise that Ferry and Butzi and their team christened the 73 lightweight 911 derivative the RS.

I've learned this lesson yet again, very recently. I fell in love with the 991 manual 3 early on and put my 991.2rs up for sale as a result. After a few weeks, you can guess how that turned out. RS is RS
