My 997.2 GT3 is getting a 4.2!

After a year full of changes, I made it through 2018 pretty well. I decided earlier this year to treat myself. My initial thought was to trade in my 997.2 GT3 for the 991.2 model. But every weekend drive reinforced the feeling that handing over the keys to my car could be a move I would regret. I made the decision to fund a project for my beloved 7.2.

What I enjoy most about the GT3 is its ability to get those pleasure neurons firing whenever a good road presents itself. The sound, the acceleration forces on the body and the feedback through the steering all add up to a visceral experience so hard to match. How to get even more enjoyment out of it? More engine! Make playing this internal combustion instrument even more fun.

I decided to go for a big motor project. Researching the options, I learned about Autometrics Motorsports, which was only a four hour drive from where I live. After multiple phone calls and email exchanges with Gordon, we agreed to a 4.2 build, and Autometrics began gathering the necessary parts. The part that was hardest to acquire was the RS 4.0 intake manifold. Once that came in, we were ready to roll. I drove down to Charleston last month to drop off my car.

Here are some photos that Gordon sent me:

Awesome! How many 4.2’s are out there? Never heard of going that big.

Izzone 06-02-2019 08:51 PM

Congratulations

I'm tempted to do the exact same thing to my car

Holy CRAP! This is my dream. A 4.2 built by Cory and Stu is my dream GT3 . PLEASE hate your car and sell it to me :) Congrats!! Best Josh

Excited to follow all this too. Looking forward to your impressions

Nice. How does this compare to the sharkwerks 4.1?

Congrats and all the best. You are being done and taken care of by Autometrics a solid known and named outfit. Rest assure you are in good hands.
Champion Motorsport did my 997.1 (3.6L) GT3RS build to a 4.2L. This was done back in 2012. After two phases of development it put down 512 rwhp. The build was bullet proof and the current owner is totally satisfied with the car and engine build.

This sounds fun! Looking forward to the progress

anyway we can get a list compiled of companies (and locations) that do these builds?

gt2-josh 06-03-2019 01:24 PM

Dundon, Sharkwerks, BBi, GMG, TPC Autometrics, Champion
