Default Clubsport rear cage question

The one I have has been painted and in the process the wrap that was on the horizontal bars where the shoulder belts attach is gone. Does anybody know what that wrap actually is and where to get it? I'd look to put mine back to the original look. Thanks

Same here. That stuff is the toughest tape like material I've handled. I'd like to return mine to original as well. JBO

I tried unsuccessfully to find a similar tape material when I was going to have my bar painted. In the end, my paint shop very carefully masked off the tape on the horizontal bar (along with the IVM part number stickers) and then painted the bar. Came out perfect.

You peeled it off? How thick is it?

Fairly thick as far as tape goes. It has a unique texture that makes it super stiff. And the glue that holds it to the bar is insanely strong. JBO

I don't have a CS cage, so not sure I know exactly what the tape looks like. But, if it is clear to protect the paint from rubbing of the harnesses, we've used leading edge "helicopter" tape on cages with good success. A bunch of manufacturers make it...3M, ISC. Shops like Racer Parts Wholesale, OG Racing, Pegasus etc sell it.

It's black and I've never seen anything like it.

Does it have a texture to it?

Yes highly textured. Like sand paper and strong and stiff and sticky as hell. I wish I had left mine on...

I wonder if it's skateboard grip tape?

Hey Coop! I don't believe it's that granular but I can't be certain because I foolishly ripped mine off and dumped it. Argh...

Seems like it would abrade the belts if too much texture

Its not abrasive but has texture to it. It’s definitely not skateboard tape.

I've seen two kinds of tape. I've had 5 EU-spec cars with OEM cages: all had a clear matte tape from factory. It's a harder/crisper material than PPF (despite similar thickness) and, like everyone here, I've tried to source the same to no avail. I'm inclined to replace it with matte transparent XPEL PPF (for just that strip) when the time comes. First guinea pig is my 996 which has a white cage and is being restored from shell up...

The black skater-board like tape seems to be a stateside thing. I can't say I've seen that outside of North American cars, whether that's clubsports or full-bore racecars. Suspicion: one of the tuners probably did that with their aftermarket cage at one point and others just copied...
