997.1 GT3 or 997.1 turbo/13+ GT-R BE?
A good friend of mine wants to buy either a 997.1 turbo 6mt or 13+ black edition GT-R as his weekend fun car to drive around town and occasional backroads blast. He has no intentions of tracking it. He thinks the GT-R is the better performer and cheaper too, but the 997 will hold value better.
I am trying to convince him to get a GT3 instead, since it’s lighter, more raw and involving to drive in my opinion. However, I have only minimal experience behind the wheel of a GTR or 997 turbo. Also, he is indifferent regarding 6mt and DCT.
He is receptive to a GT3 but not sure it’s an adrenaline rush like the other two. I believe power and fun to drive are his primary requirements. To me my .1 gt3 is plenty fast.
I told him he shouldn't lose much money on the gt3 if he decides to sell next year. I’m not sure where GTR prices are headed, but they seem bargain priced today. Are 07-08 997 6mt turbos now equivalent in value to the same year GT3's? It seems the turbo prices are rising, but gt3 values have softened. He just sold his lightly modded C7 Stingray and wants to upgrade. He is also considering a used C7 Z07, but thinks it’s too similar to the stingray. His budget is in the $80’s.
Anyone have experience with all 3 for advice which is the better overall street driven sports car? My vote is for the GT3!
TIA

I have a GT3. Would I trade it for a GTR? NO! Would I trade it for a Turbo? NO!

Turbo is fun for freeway driving and the rear seats are great option. GT3 for everything else. Have no experience with GT-R. Regarding pricing, IMO, turbo and GT3 have already depreciated and I find both to be safe against future depreciation.
Turbo is more civilized, easier to get in and go, tranny shifts smoother, less time to warm up and go also more comfortable. The GT3 on the other hand is an event every time.
For daily use turbo - for weekend enjoyment GT3.

GTRs are, apparently, a decent performing car (I've never been in one) - and they should be cheaper
Not sure they're better than a GT3??? But they're certainly uglier than any 911

Only way to know which is the right choice is to go drive them all. The right answer for one person might not be for another. If after a short drive in the GT3 he is still unsure, it's not the car for him.

Maybe a turbo car is better for him due to ease of increasing power.
