I've got my 997.2 GT3 in the shop getting the coolant lines welded this week. While I was checking her in last Friday I was asked by the shop if I wanted the water pump replaced as a PM item since the engine was going to be dropped anyways.
My GT3 has just over 11,500 miles on her..... should I have the water pump replaced now?
I asked the shop for their opinion after they had a chance to check the bearing to see if it had lots of play or not. But, until then I figured I'd ask the group here to get your opinions.
It doesn't have a lot of miles on it, but its still 7 years old. And its right there. Effectively you've already paid for all the expense of changing it already.
I swung by the shop working on my GT3 yesterday to take some photos. The new water pump and SharkWerks oil cooler metal fittings will be installed today, then she'll be buttoned up and ready for a track tech inspection by the same shop on Friday. I'll have her back in my hands on Monday.... I wish it was Friday, but I'll be taking a road trip Up North this weekend instead.
Oh, I was told by the shop foreman...who happens to me working on the project...that the coolant fittings were super tough to remove. He said out of the 12 or so he's done in the past, the adhesive/sealer with these were like brand new and didn't wanna give up. He was very glad that I bought the BBI Autosport fitting kit for the project.

you mind sharing the shop in SE michigan? my family home is in monroe MI. Always good to know a Porsche mechanic nearby
Small world! Monroe is where I'm from and currently living.
The shop I'm using is Rennstatt which is part of Arbor Motion in Ann Arbor. Their lead technician Tim has been with the local PCA chapter - Rally Sport Region - for years.
