The article was going great until he had to talk crap about the Tiptronic;
"Now, I admit, there are some issues -- like, for instance, the old Tiptronic transmission, which is very slow by modern standards." -Doug DeMuro
Every time some Youtuber or car reviewer does a stint with a 997, they have to always talk crap about the Tiptronic. Did they forget about the automatic in the Aston Martin Vantage, Jag XK, Mustang, Camaro, Corvette? The Tiptronic was by far more superior than those I listed.

Actually the straight line acceleration figures for the Tiptronic are better than those for the manual. If you're into drag racing, the Tiptronic outperforms the manual. I'm not into drag racing, so my 997 turbo had a manual transmission.

I'm not sure the tip would be too bad in a car that's already as quick as a 997 Turbo. I can see it being frustrating in a car with 350hp. I'm not saying I want one, just that the maddening rate of acceleration of a 997 Turbo.. a slow gear shift may not make you feel like you're dragging along. I mean.. they come with a manual gearbox too so the slow shift is already there either way.

The PDK comes with some neat theatrics like the rev matching, sport+ modes, and "feel" of a manual. Like Doug said, every 911 was a great car new and remains so today. I would love to get my hands on a Sport-O-Matic 911.

The problem with the tip becomes evident if you go to the track. With a manual one can learn to shift down and up without upsetting the car as one has complete control over the process. With the tip, The sluggish downshift/upshift with the accompanying weight transfer can be a very bad experience if the tires are already near their traction limit in a corner.
This makes total sense to me.
