Default Replace window seal DIY?

Anybody replaced this seal themselves? Level 1 DIY or super PITA ?

Mine is failing at the arrow. Looks like it runs the rear window and the entire top of the front.

Wondering if you just pull out the old one or its a real PITA like old brittle window tint.

Any experience/advice greatly appreciated.

Looks like the seal is about $300

The seal is actually a metal and rubber part that is held in by rivets. You have take off the B and C pillar covers so you can remove the bolts on the rear quarter window. You need a suction cup glass tool to remove the window. The you have to drill out the old rivets and put in new rivets with the new seal. Can be done but you need to be careful drilling out the rivets.

Are the rivets metal or plastic?

Metal, and they fall into the body shell, wedging down near the wheel, poking out, causing dimples in your paint. Be certain every drilled out rivet piece is extracted from the body cavities. It's doable but a pain.

Sounds like about a $1,000 savings if DIY, considering parts and labor for both sides. Maybe an all day Saturday.
Assuming the procedure is in the manual. Got some research to do.

Thanks for the info.

Check this thread out. It shows the dropped rivets into the body shell, the outer paint damage, and the retrieval process. PDR fixed the paint dents.

Well that sounds worse than the seal!

Does drilling out the rivet get the backside of the rivet? I'm thinking the backside is bigger than the hole, ie a rivet.

Also, is there a tool to install the new rivet?

Do you think all rivets will fall into the body shell or only the rear ones, which are located below the rear window?

I'm looking to replace this seal too and deciding if its worth the trouble of doing it myself. i'm just an amateur DIY-er and the thought of drilling out rivets seems a bit much for me. anybody have a good DIY or update to this?
